Pirates fans seem to think Liriano will be their starter for the WC game. They're somewhat similar to the O's in that they have a few quality starters, both very similar to each other. The benefit to that is, they get to enter this 3-game series with the Reds, which will decide where their 1-game Wild Card showdown is played, without having to worry about setting up the rotation in a manner that optimizes their chances of winning said WC game.
I'm really hoping the game is at PNC Park. It's been awesome to see that place jazzed up down the stretch.

Glad for long-suffering Pirates fans, that they'll at a minimum see a playoff game, something we weren't even guaranteed of last year.

Those are Pitt students perched high atop the Cathedral of Learning on the University of Pittsburgh campus, and far below at Forbes Field -- 530 feet and 42 stories below -- are the freshly minted champs, the 1960 Pirates. Good seats, if you can get them.

The Pirates are absolutely a feel good story here, one that I almost always would root for. However, most of these fans are Pittsburgh Steelers fans. Its hard for me to in any way want a Steeler fan to feel good.
Also, the history of the O's and Pirates. I,of course, don't remember '71 and '79 but two brutal 7 game losses in the World Series. Blowing 3-1 leads in both. So yeah, not rooting for the Pirates.

Both on my Birthday...Actually the day before I was born, and the day before my 8th Birthday, but still.
I'm with you. But for different reasons.

Ugh, so do you root against the Giants/Jets, Rangers/Islands/Nets, and Knicks/Devils because they're Yankee fans?
I mean truth be told, you could find something wrong with every fanbase.

As I said in a different thread, most Pirates fans are Steelers fans, but most Steelers fans aren't remotely Pirates fans.

Yeah a lot of Steelers fans are also Yankees or Red Sox fans that I've come across. One of those, "I can't root for this team (Pirates), they're so bad."
And then they justify it, sure I rooted for them because they were winning, but I stuck with them.

This article from @pirateprospects is brilliance. best pitching article I've read in YEARS. More writers should try: http://www.piratesprospects.com/2014/03/the-art-of-pitching-mastering-the-sinkerball.html …
This is a great breakdown of the pitch, how pitchers develop and throw it, how a catcher (Russell Martin) receives it, and how hitters view it.
