To Sale? He was a stud this year on a real crappy team.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Imagine if Sale won the Cy and Abreu the MVP on a 72 win team?

Even I won't go that far. But wasn't it awesome that one time MCab won the triple crown?

I know, I'm just pointing out the inconsistency of the baseball writers, because they could very well do that. Especially if they are tired of hearing about Trout and just want to spite him.

Kluber leads ALL ML in fWAR...yes, even Kershaw.

K rate is 4th in baseball.

ERA is 8th.

FIP is second.

BB rate in the top 25.

2nd in IP.

He should win Cy Young...Trout MVP...Kershaw should get both.

No issues with any of this. Kluber was a beast this year.

Trout and Kluber in the AL. Felix was right there but tonight makes the choice easy IMO.

Kershaw for CY. I think I'm going with McCutchen for MVP, though. For one, if it's really close, I prefer to go with the position player. Secondly, he's been a top 5 hitter in baseball this year. Thirdly, he's 3rd in WPA. Lastly, I think his defense is likely better than the metrics give him credit for.

Lucroy gets serious consideration from me too. Fantastic hitting catcher, a top 5 WAR in the NL,a very solid 15th in baseball in WPA, and his tremendous pitch framing enhances his value.

I always treat the MVP for a position player and Cy Young for a pitcher.  Won't argue with anyone who would vote for a pitcher for MVP, but I like to keep them separate, the the offensive and defensive POY awards in the NFL.

I'd go:

AL MVP: Trout

AL CY: Hernandez

NL MVP: McCutchen

NL CY: Kershaw

Only close race is Hernandez v. Kluber, unless you wanna argue Kershaw for MVP.

Don't forget that baseball has an offensive POY award.

Why Felix? And I think the NL race is close regardless of considering Kershaw. Lucroy is in the mix.

Looking backwards I lean more towards ERA than FIP/xFIP, and Felix wins there (even adjusting  for park with ERA+/ERA-).  Advantage in WPA as well, which I think is a great stat for determining exactly how much a player's performance effected their team's won/loss record (again, looking backwards).

I won't argue if you would give it to Kluber over Hernandez.  I think it's incredibly close across the board, just a matter of what your preferred way of viewing SP happens to be, each has a slight advantage in various areas depending on how you slice it.

Hernandez is considered to have a much better defense behind him than Kluber. On FanGraphs, the Mariners are rated the 13th best defensive team, while the Indians are the 29th.

I also recall you arguing that play down the stretch in a playoff race should be valued more. With that in mind, yesterday has to hurt Felix.
