Heyman is reporting the O's will not make a QO to Wieters.
I am not surprised if it is true.
I don't think they thought he was going to take the QO last year.
Did not see them taking the chance again this year.

It shouldn't hurt the market for him.

He was using a wedge and mallet to split a piece of log into firewood... he swung the mallet really hard... but the wedge flew off, cut his forearm, and then rolled softly to the second baseman....
Then he used his blazing speed to race to the hospital.

Wieters to the Nats. 2 year deal.
Wish him well.

God would that be annoying.
But I'm confident that he stinks.

He got 2 years!? Wow. Very surprised he got that at this point. And the second year is an opt-out according to Sherman and Heyman.
I'm curious to see what the money is. I wouldn't be surprised if Boras was trying super hard to get him more than the Orioles gave to Castillo. Especially after hearing that it's the same framework of a 2-year deal with an opt-out.

How's Nats park in terms of allowing weak ground outs to second?

$10M this year and an $11M player option for next year.
Wow. Didn't think he'd get anywhere near that after the way the offseason had gone. Guess Boras didn't overplay his hand as much as we all thought. I'd be very surprised if he was offered more than that at any earlier point. Though I'm floored by this deal anyways, so maybe we shouldn't judge things based on whether or not they surprise me.

Good for Matt.
He disappointed many based on the ridiculous expectations, but as far as catchers go, his numbers were better than most.
Boras got him more than I thought, but again, good for Matt.

Looks like $5M is deferred, but still.
Nationals have deal with Matt Wieters. $10 million this year with an option that would pay him $11 million next. $5 mil deferred through '21

Deferring $5M of this year's salary to 2021 makes the NPV of the deal about $725k lower using a 4% discount rate (which is the rate I think MLB and MLBPA use to determine current value for things like the luxury tax).
