Wei-Yin Chen got more than that and is only half the pitcher Ryu is.
Chen’s deal turned out poorly. We’ll see here. Pitching is king in the juiced ball/small park era.

Who has had a shoulder injury (he has surgery on it) and then came back and was good.
I guess Britton also answers this but he had to be a reliever.

Chen signed a 5/80 deal.

That seems high, but he got it, so good for him.

I had thought it was $90M. Your probably right. Point still remains.

I saw a rumor about the Jays looking at a Price trade, although not whether it would be along with or superseded by this deal.
They must think they are close to being ready for a run.

Good offense with a lot of cheap talent for a while. It’s like playing with your QB contract before free agency.

I like what the Jays are doing. It's not going to be a dominant team, but it's never going to be a dominant team. Build opportunity and go out and see what happens. They've restructured the front of their rotation with Ryu, Chase Anderson and Roark. Not great but something that can give you some QSs.
They have an interesting lineup. I could see them adding a guy like Castellanos still and maybe another guy like Neil Walker that can move around some.

I just saw this on mlb.com too.
First guess has to be they're planning on putting Martin at 3B? ....then why not start Vlad with the reps/comfort at 1B.

I believe that Travis Shaw is going to be the regular third baseman for Toronto to start the season.I just saw this on mlb.com too.

Right. I understand that. They aren't leaving him at 3B with his negative dWAR when they consider him moving in a couple years for Martin. Or maybe it's something else. Or maybe he's just a crappy defender.
...but unless there's a real reason to move him, he's less valuable at 1B than 3B. If he's going to wind up at 1B, why wait, just get him started there.

I agree with you.
He's a terrible defensive third baseman IMO.
They most likely don't want to be too critical of his defensive abilities in the press.
I doubt he plays much third for the Blue Jays going forward.

Vlad Jr. Is a DH. There is value there if his bat is as good as it looks, but he should probably not wear a glove.

His weight is also an issue.
