The Cerrano and Ricker fight last night got the response out of me about Rob being relatively even tempered at BSL compared to OH. I want to hear some of the epic SG moments retold in this thread. Whether they be personal exchanges between you and him or other moments.

I'll start with a story from the '09 Ravens season. I was complaining about the decision to not resign Stover and go with an inexperienced rookie from before training camp. By the time Hauschka blew the kick in Minn that would have won the game I was livid. I remember that night Rob and I got into it again on the Stover subject. I can't remember the exact exchange but he called me an idiot and I blew a gasket. I wrote a post that would have put anything I've said on this site to shame. The ironic thing is I don't think Rob ever saw it. It was taken down really quickly and it resulted in my first 2 or 3 infractions on that site after 5-6 years. I know ChaosLex saw it because he made a post about it.  He might remember the whole thing better than me.

Anyway, go ahead with some more SG stories. The truth is I probably missed half of them because the Orioles board over there got so cluttered and I skipped a lot of threads.

BTW.....Rob, we do it because we love you and because the legacy of Sports Guy will never die.

Haha, great idea. I usually try to forget whenever people call me an idiot, useless or to generally not bother posting anymore, etc. so it's hard to remember many of my interactions with SG.

One that sticks out was my first week over on the Hangout. I was like 15 or 16'ish, and somewhat shy, but remember being astounded that Rob thought Rodrigo Lopez was useless. I decided to throw my .02 cents in the thread by citing wins as the reason Rodrigo was our ace and should be brought back (I believe he won 15 games that year).

Needless to say, Rob's response was something along the lines of: "If you're going to talk about the importance of wins for starting pitchers, you should probably not even bother ever posting on here again."

That was fun. ;) On the bright side, I've always credited Rob for "helping me understand" why wins aren't all that important for pitchers.

BTW - I got to thinking about your comment... You and Weber are more like heavy weight boxers... you two just tip toe and tap dance around the rink for 15 rounds and land the occasional sharp jab or upper cut from time to time. Pedro and me just dropped the gloves and went at it. Was that the best fight in BSL's young history?

.Weber and I usually just spar. We're boring. No killer instinct.

On the other hand, you and Cerrano were throwing haymakers going for the KO. Got the crowd on their feet. Congrats. :D

I probably don't have the best recollection of some his better disputes, because when I see things devolving into pissing matches I usually just glaze over them.

But there is one post that has stuck in my mind that SG made.  Someone - I believe it was RShack but can't be sure - got on him about why he was always talking about talent, why he was so obsessed with it, etc.

SG's response was "Talent is pretty important.  Helps you win baseball games."

I don't know why, but I got quite a chuckle out of that.

If we were able to talk RShack into it, this thread would be 10 pages by noon. He has quite a number of stories he could share, lol.

SG was such a heel. That's for damn sure. Has made the face turn but there is timid trust by the fans. You feel like he could turn again at any moment.

SG and I never really got into it that bad.  A few times over dook and whatnot.

I know Rob has this dumb idea that it's ok for him to root for dook because Baltimore-area people root for UMD over, say, Towson (which doesn't include alums I suppose).  We've gotten into it a few times, and I know he's left me some neg rep over there about college hoops.

But, by far, the best SG stories are the ones between him and RShack.  If you think I'm bad with the whole "don't trust advanced metrics" thing, the two of them used to go at it -- it was pretty hilarious.  Rob would end up making some kind of comment along the lines of "why are you so obsessed with me?  Do you have a poster of me on the wall in your bedroom or something?"  I always chuckle at that line.

Weber and I had an epic fight over Kobe and LeBron several years ago over there that SG was also a part of.

LOL

The stupidity from OH didn't follow here to BSL...That's the difference.

I'll let Weber get into the specifics but I remember SG told him to go plant some trees. I got a kick out of that.

LOL - I don't remember the details, but that was hilarious. I'm sure Weber didn't think so. Now they have a radio show.

The worst part about Rshack wasn't his philosophies...its the arguments he would make that had nothing to do with what I was saying....and, of course, that wasn't exclusive to me either.

I remember the one over on OH that he had all the time(with everyone) and got so pissed that we would use OPS to talk about a players worth.

Or one I remember with him and Drungo was that he hated the term blow it up...So Drungo was trying to tell him that it was just short hand for get younger, cheaper, etc....but Rshack just kept harping on it over and over and over again.

It was so infuriating.

He also used to HATE the trade ideas.

It would go something like this:

SG:  I want to trade players X, Y, Z, B, C, D and A for players F, G, H, J

RShack:  You're living in a fantasy world

SG:  This is a baseball message board, this is the type of stuff we discuss.

On and on and on....it was good reading.

The funny thing is this...He would bash me for a lot of what I would say and then his hero, Andy MacPhail, would do similar things.  I said, make Sherrill a closer and then flip him when his value was high.  RShack's response was, this is the real world, you don't just flip players like they are on your fantasy baseball team.

Of course, AM did just what I was saying he should do but Rshack would turn it into something totally different and say that's not what he did.

If I remember correctly there were some good OldFan battles too. Granted, OldFan argued with everyone.

Sorry, but it's hard to remember anything else about OldFan after his epic viagra thread. Still the best thread ever.

OldFan successfully predicted that Hayden Penn would not be a good pitcher because of his name.

That's the ultimate OldFan story.
