I listened to a little.  The first 5 minutes are just Coleman reading promos.  After that, Adam does most of the talking, at least for the part I listened to.  Here are a few things that Adam said:

  • Duquette first mentioned a possible trade to him on July 27.  Adam said he might have been OK with a trade if he'd had more time to get used to the idea. (begins at roughly the 19 minute mark)
  • Adam texted with Shane Vittorino, and found out that the Phillies planned to platoon him in RF, which made him dislike the trade even more
  • When Adam got back to the clubhouse after everyone else had been traded, he felt like Will Smith looking around the empty mansion at the end of Fresh Prince
  • He has no grudges against the Orioles, but also has no relationship with them (at roughly the 24 minute mark)
  • They sent him an email asking if he wanted to throw out a first pitch, but he hasn't seen the point of flying to Baltimore just for that
  • He didn't say much about the 30th anniversary celebration, he just wondered why the focus was on him not being there when the O's didn't invite Markaris, Hardy, Wieters, etc.
  • He talked to Andino afterwards, who said he had a great time
  • He thinks something will eventually get worked out between him and the O's.

Balt Baseball: Adam Jones says Orioles didn’t give him enough time to consider trade; ‘I have no animosity’

https://www.baltimor...owards-orioles/

He said Dan Duquette, then the Orioles’ executive vice president, approached him on July 27th — four days before the trade deadline, nine days after Manny Machado had been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers and three days after Zack Britton was sent to the New York Yankees — to gauge his interest in a move.

“My whole thing was, ‘why don’t you come to me in mid-June?’ You knew where the season was headed. July 1st, you knew where the season was headed. At the All-Star break [Duquette could have asked]: ‘If there’s interest, would you be willing to go?’” Jones said.

“I can mentally prepare for that, also, but if you’re giving me four days to make a decision, I’m immediately like guarded, ‘What? What?’”

Jones earned the right to say no. I don't think the organization needed to prepare him that they would possibly want to move him.

“I don’t have a relationship with them,” he said of the Orioles. “No one’s reached out to me through the organization about being with the organization.” Jones, who lives in San Diego was invited to throw out a first pitch but declined to travel to Baltimore.

I guess he's saying no one has reached out to him about being an official part of the organization, because he is also saying here the organization did reach out to him about throwing out a first pitch.

No idea why the team wouldn't want a relationship with one of the best and longest-tenured Orioles in franchise history. Not to mention he's on SM where he could be an ambassador for the team. A real head-scratcher.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

The same with Cal Jr, this team and paying respect to their history, is pretty mind blowing at times.

Starts at the top I guess. A fish rots from the head.

With Cal, it could also be long-term. They did fire his father as manager after 7 games.

Completely different ownership/management that fired Cal Sr. That's not it. From what I recall reading, Cal Jr. occasionally makes appearances on behalf of the club. Why he doesn't have a more active role or some sort of official position with the franchise is anyone's guess. Could be either or both sides just aren't interested.

I do think the Orioles screwed up by not making sure he, and Adam, were part of the 30-year OPACY commemoration. Scheduling is no excuse, as they should have come up with a date those two could both do it, then build the rest of the guest list from there.

If anyone with the Baltimore Banner reads this, I'll host Adam's podcast for free.
