Was a two year deal for a backup catcher necessary?

Olney:

In order to have a shutdown bullpen, you have to have a dominant closer, and the Braves' Craig Kimbrel is coming off one of the greatest seasons ever for a reliever: Opposing hitters had 231 plate appearances against him, and he struck out 116 -- almost exactly half -- in 62 2/3 innings, with just 14 walks and 27 hits. When he threw strike 1 on the first pitch of the at-bat (147 of those 231 plate appearances), hitters went 16-for-143, with 97 strikeouts and one extra-base hit. Here's one more: After hitters got ahead in the count, they went 5-for-32, with 10 strikeouts. Just one more: With two outs and runners in scoring position, opposing hitters were 1-for-18 with 10 strikeouts.

Braves get Upton for Prado, Delgado, Ahmed and Spruill.

Spruill was their 9th rated prospect according to FG. Ahmed was their 11th rated prospect.

Delgado: http://espn.go.com/m...randall-delgado
Prado: http://espn.go.com/m...13/martin-prado

Wow. Thought it would've taken more than that. What an outfield in Atlanta.

AZ shifted focus from a SS to a 3B for Upton and were willing to take the best one they could get. Deal was primarily about Prado for them, and they've got an extension in place.

Yea, I agree with what people are saying about the deal.

This is all Towers' fault IMO. He was at the point of no return.

The Braves should be really good this year. That outfield will be fun to watch.

MLB.com: Back in the game, Gattis close to realizing dream

http://mlb.mlb.com/n...975534&c_id=mlb

This is a really cool story as I'm sure many of you have read. I keep joking that he must've been the only employee in the history of Eldora (just the way of referring to the skiing place) to have hit an MLB homer. From reading his story, I definitely overlapped with him in Colorado, was just 20 miles away from where he worked and skied there a few times.

Not sure if he'll end up sticking or not, but regardless this is quite something.
