Wasted a lot of time there before fouling.

Has a team ever lost their first game of the year and still went from unranked to ranked?

I don't need to see the rest of CBB to know that even if this team loses, that they are one of the 25 best teams in the country.

Other way around and I have no idea.

But yeah, they seem like a top 25 team.

It looked like Noel wanted to foul and they wouldn't call it. Not a pretty last possession regardless.

Layman nearly killed that UK guy at the end. Ouch.

Hell of a game. I don't know if' I've ever been actually excited after a Maryland loss before, but this looks like a good team.

Terrible final play, gotta get a better look. But hell of a game. Should be a fun season.

Real show of guts by Maryland....tough game. Kind of what I expected. It took awhile to adjust to the size. Couldn't quite get over the hump but I saw a lot I liked. Lenn is going to me a handful in the ACC. He is much improved and a lot stronger. Loved the emotion he played with. He whipped Noel all night. Mitchell, Allen and Layman adjusted well and had a good second half.

I liked the use of the press. Did not see it last year, because Turgeon did not have the bodies.
The best part was Maryland played so well the second half it forced Dickie V to acknowledge he was not doing a Blue/White scrimmage. Hate to lose, but again there was a lot to like.

Lenn is going to make a lot of money if he continues the type of play we saw tonight.

I'll have a more nuanced analysis later, but here are three things I know about this Maryland team:

1) They will make the NCAA tournament without much, if any, concern on Selection Sunday (aside from seeding)

2) Alex Len will not be on the team for the 2013-2014 season

3) Pe'Shon Howard will not be the starting Point Guard by the time conference play gets going

I already have mancrush on Charles Mitchell. What a force he is as a rebounder.

And bye-bye, Alex Len.

Yep..shot horribly and still matched up great with a top 5 team.

Sucks to lose, but a lot of good things. The offensive rebounding and free throw shooting was particularly encouraging.

Just don't F up during OOC play, and this team should be fine making the tournament.

Howard is horrible. Sorry, but that has to be my first comment. I mean perfect screen by Layman and both Layman and Arrnaught were wide open and Howard dribbles around with his head down and throws up some crap 3 after the buzzard sounded. Not only that he just has no ability to get by his man and create. Maybe it's the injury, I don't know, but he's barely an ACC caliber player right now. The sooner Allen starts getting those minutes the better we will be in the long run.

Overall got to be pretty happy. Just couldn't find a shot to go down in the 1st half. Both Faust and Wells were horrible from the field and we lost by 3 to a top 5 team. Also, we are rarely if ever going to see the length and defensive ability that Kentucky showed us the rest of the year. It's a shame we didn't execute a little better from 5 minutes in. Padge missed a layup. We let the little white PG steal the ball right underneath their basket after a rebound, and we had some sloppy turnovers. We put ourselves in great position for the last 5 minutes and then played pretty poorly. Certainly come away feeling great about the team this year. When all is said and done we might be a top 15 team in the country. Seriously. Len is just a stud and I'm going to assume these are two of the worst games you'll see from faust and Wells. It looks like all the freshman can contribute(Allen, Layman,Mitchell) so I really have raised the bar up even higher than I orginally had it. I thought we were a top 30ish tourny team but I really think it can even be better than that.

Congrats guys, and welcome back Maryland Basketball!

Alex Len was the best player on the floor last night. Should be a fun season in the ACC.
