Washington Post: Wiley commits
http://www.washingto...prss=rss_sports

Wiley is averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game this summer for Team Takeover, the nation’s top-seeded AAU squad entering the EYBL Peach Jam. Wiley is also shooting a blistering 48.1 percent from three-point range.

Imagine that? A 2G that could consistently knock down shots from outside?

Wow, that was sort of out of nowhere.  It had seemed like we were in good with Wiley, but I hadn't heard that any decision was imminent.

Another good get.  The lack of guard play and shooting is certainly being addressed between Wiley and Trimble.

Wiley is a big-time player. Chris you took my statment - "A 2G that can hit outside shots". It's something that the Terps really haven't had much over the past decade.

Very exciting news.

Paul Biancardi @PaulBiancardi 6m

Maryland scores another terrific guard in Dion Wiley. Great outside shooter at 48% from 3's per @xStatVAx in @NikeEYB @KSTeamTakeover

Seriously, look at all those guards / wings.  Add an above-the-rim PF to that mix, and you have quite the team.

I'm going to curb my excitement until we see the guy play. How many overrated players have come through here in the last decade? Sean Mosley received similar praise (8th best SG in the nation, the best high school player in the state). He was nothing short of disappointing. Hope Wiley pans out though.

Terps top target in '14 so needless to say a huge get.

Good call. Smart to curb your enthusiasm with teenagers regardless.

Great get though, on paper, I'm pumped for '14.

Any rumblings on some bigs we're after?

Between Allen, Peters, Wiley, and Trimble we should be pretty well set with guards for the next few years. Hopefully one or two of them can actually shoot the ball.

We are reaching out to a few other analysts of where MD goes from here. In our Q&A with Hassenstab we talked about

C Goodluck Okonoboh, apparently everyone is after him. Indiana seen as the leader. Also PF Obi Enechionyia, who is desribed as raw, and Martin Geben who Hassenstab brought up, and seemed to like.

Another shooter. Im sensing a theme. Though not 100 on on lists right now, I've seen it said he will be soon with his improved play.

Yeah, it seems there's a chance we won't be pulling our hair out in the near future with a team that can't hit open jay's. That is a good thing. Very interested to see how they augment this class with bigs though.

How many more schollies do they have to offer for 14?? Lets assume there is no one currently on the roster leaves, though its certainly possible.

Wings: Wells (Sr), Layman (Jr), Nickens (Freshman)
Bigs: Smotrycz (Sr), Cleare (Jr), Mitchell (Jr), Dodd (Soph)

*With 1 remaining scholarship available.

I love that quick and high release. That should play in college.

Watching the video, it was interesting to see how his team worked the ball to get him looks, and how he was able to step under the guy running at him for the intermediate jumpers.  He can shoot which Maryland was in desperate need of, can he defend?

Good point. It wasn't just him with the ball in his hands and overpowering inferior players. I like seeing set plays being run for him and him executing. Again, another thing that'll play in college.

So many prospect videos are guys who catch the ball against inferior HS talent and just can dribble drive or dribble pull up because the on ball defending is so poor.
