Good point. It wasn't just him with the ball in his hands and overpowering inferior players. I like seeing set plays being run for him and him executing. Again, another thing that'll play in college.

So many prospect videos are guys who catch the ball against inferior HS talent and just can dribble drive or dribble pull up because the on ball defending is so poor.

I never put much stock in highlight films because they are just that, but it is hard to not notice him doing little things to score.  Plus he has a nice release.

CSN Baltimore: What does MD need now?
http://www.csnbaltim...ryland-need-now

Trayvon Reed (Center, Snellville, Ga.)

As a legitimate seven-footer, Reed is the tallest of the group, but also the lankiest. He is athletic and runs the floor well and can block shots around the rim. He will still need to expand his offensive repertoire in order to be more effective than just dunks and put-backs near the basket.

Abdul-Malik Abu (Power Forward, Boston, Mass.)

Two summers ago, Abu was a below-the-rim space-eater on the interior with some baby fat and good foundation of skills. Then he completely reshaped his frame and grew into his body. Now he is an elite talent who can run the floor, block shots, and play above the rim. There are a lot of schools interested in him now, but the staffs ties to the New England area could help.

Goodluck Okonoboh (Power Forward, Boston, Mass.)

Okonoboh reclassified from 2013 to 2014 and has since seen his stock rise astronomically. Maryland will have to fight for him against teams like Duke, Connecticut, and Syracuse, who have all taken more of an interest in him since he reclassfied.

Why wouldn't anyone want a guy named Goodluck? Let's get it done.

Thanks for the info, Chris. Good stuff here.

No credit for me here, good stuff from CSN. Nice to see it from them.

Definitely need some athletic big men who can play above the rim.  We shouldn't even be looking at anybody in the Clear/Mitchell mold who are large bodies below the rim.  Gotta get some athleticism and shot-blocking.  Offense is secondary.

True - I don't frequent CSN so appreciate you linking it and providing the text.

This obviously remains the biggest need moving forward, so I'm anxious to see what Turge has up his sleeve here. I'm still not confident we have a true 1 either, but it can't be worse than last year (I think).

Agreed.  I am anxious to see Dodd play this year.  he seems to fit the athletic mold.

I got one of my scout.com New Commit emails saying the 4 star center Trayvon Reed had committed to the Terps. However, when I got back on scout.com just now he's no longer listed as having committed. Anyone got info on this?

It's a bit confusing but he hasn't committed as of yet.

From what I read he hasn't even visited the campus yet.

Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post tells us...

Center Trayvon Reed committed to the Maryland basketball team on Thursday during an official campus visit, an individual with knowledge of the situation said. The 7-feet-1 center adds a much-needed interior dimension to the school’s class of 2014, which already includes two of the nation’s premier shooters and an under-the-radar wing vaulting up the recruiting rankings.

Also, Dave Tucker of TestudoTimes.com confirms...

After kinda, sorta committing and then backing off last Friday, 2014 center Trayvon Reed officially committed to Maryland today, after visiting the campus for the first time yesterday.

Great news! :)

7'1''? Christ. Sounds like a great get. Very excited to see them add a big, especially a good one.

How good is this guy? Is he 4 stars mostly because he's 7'1 or is he actually pretty skilled and/or athletic?

Check out the link I posted above. Youtube clip is there, as well as scouting reports.

He moves very well. Shot-blocking is real. Incredibly thin. Can get off the floor. Offense looks like put-backs and dunks.

Can't watch it at the moment, but sounds promising.

As we all knew would happen, the recruiting has picked up immensely since Gary retired. Anybody, who wasn't an apologist knew we should be getting a ton of the 4 star caliber recruits and having top 15-20 classes minimum.

Now, its all about translating the talent into wins on the court.
