Hunter's 2015 minor league season will have some pretty major ramifications for what the Orioles do regarding Chen and Norris after this season (if they both remain with the team).

As Melewski said on our show the other day..we need to see him throw before we can get too excited.

Well fortunately it's an elbow and not a shoulder.  Worst case is he misses next year and comes back more or less the same.  I know not everybody bounces all the way back, so that's not a given, but it's pretty likely.  So we're more talking about time rather than whether he's dead or not as a starting pitcher, which would be the case if it was a labrum surgery, at least in my opinion.

He's not going to help the major league tema next year, so it's only about getting back and pitching well, wherever he does.  no need to be aggressive.  But if he does pitch well and finishes with a substantial amount of time at AA or even AAA, then he could be on the radar for 2016, which could give us options when Norris and Chen are entering FA.

Well, it really sets you back 2 years.

It basically means he's not a full go for you, ie with no restrictions, until 2018. That's where the injury really hurts you.

MASN: Brian Graham provides updates on Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey

http://www.masnsport...ter-harvey.html

Graham said the same and that Harvey should be fine for the 2015 season.

"Absolutely," Graham said. "He is 19 years old. He logged a lot of innings. It was his first full season. We were being very cautious. He's in a great position. He's healthy, he feels good, he is going to begin a throwing program and he'll be ready to go."

CT scan on Hunter Harvey's right ankle revealed slight fracture. Will be on crutches for 1 month. 4-6 week recovery time #orioles

That sucks.   OTOH, it may not be that terrible because of his arm injury and this may allow him to be around at the end of the year.

He was going to be limited to 120 or so anyway, so shouldn't be a huge deal in the grand scheme. Just the starting and stopping season prep I guess.

There has been some hinting at him getting some Ml time this year.

This injury may actually allow that to happen.

@masnRoch: Buck wasn't upset by result of Hunter Harvey's CT scan. Just hairline fracture. Now don't have to limit innings early. #orioles

When will we reach a point that baseball people will admit they have no idea how to prevent elbow injuries, and that babying pitchers does zero for prevention?

Let him have six weeks of rest, then a platelet injection, then nurse him for a month, baby it some more, then in September see if it takes, then have TJ anyway and hes done for 2016 too.
