Looks like somebody is afraid of Jones.

Too bad it's not a regular hot day in Baltimore. or else I think Ryu would be struggling a la Uehara.

I would really love to see some kind of hard study done on that... that way I don't feel like I'm using stereotypes. This thought crossed my mind with Ryu too.

The 1-0 pitch to Cruz had some nice movement. The 1-1 pitch gets the ground ball. 1 out.

I really hope Hammel's woes are because of being rusty from Buck's ST strategy, rather than him not trusting the knee. I highlighted in his thread that his 2-seamer has not been there this year, and that's killing him, IMO.

Hammel's .79 GB/FB ratio this season is much more in line with what it was in Colorado, than his 1.14 ratio here in Baltimore last season.

He's thrown his 2-seamer 29.1% so far this season at an average velocity of 92.4 MPH so far this season. Last season to this point, he had thrown his 2-seamer 42.9% of the time at an average velocity of 93.3 MPH.

So he's thrown the 2-seamer about 14% less, and at almost a MPH slower. The spin rate has also decreased quite a bit on that pitch, according to Pitch F/X data.

It's a small sample size, but his bread and butter has not been that effective quite yet. We all know his limited work in the spring, as well as the knee issues last year, so it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise, but hopefully he's just building up to getting back to where he was, because his 2-seamer needs to come back into the fold and be as good as it was last year.

I can see him being wary of his knee. Tore my ACL three years ago in football and still don't fully trust it.

Yeah, he keeps saying he's healthy.. so hopefully nothing there. Totally agree about the 2 seam. Has to eat up bats.

Of course he also had a fair amount of K's last year...

Reimold misjudges the Crawford lowfly/liner... 2 in scoring position with 1 out.

It is apparent Hammel simply doesn't have it. This one may get away too quickly.

If Reimold plays that straight, it's runners on 1st and 2nd.  Appreciate the effort, but...

It's pretty unreal how bad the defense has been this year. And just mental mistakes in general, like some of the base running stuff.

4-0 LA. Hammel really needs to bear down here. Cannot let this thing get out of hand too early.

Man does it get me when I see Wieters batting between Jones and Davis.

It is frustrating, yes. Mental mistakes are killing this team, mistakes they were not making last season. I do not know what it is this year.

Agreed. This is game 16... so you've had 10% of the season in the books. Can't repeatedly make mistakes to kill yourself.

3-2 to Kemp.

I personally feel he should bat 5th behind Davis.

Especially since down the stretch last year, we played very well defensively, which was kind of a saving grace in terms of not being as "flukey".
