Did DJ defend JoePa since Posnanski did?
I remember a pretty big argument either here or on Foxhole.

I think if Joe Posnanski liked him you would too despite the above. But hey, that's just my opinion.

I forgot about it, but you're right. (http://www.baltimore...ge-8#entry40639)

He did defend him. The correlation is debatable.
If you want to call a desire to let information come out before declaring a person a monster "defending" him, sure. Then again, it isn't like we have recent events showing why that is advisable:
Hoffner said of the university: "They wanted to cast me as the next Jerry Sandusky. You hear my name, you see my picture and you think, Sick f--- . That's what I would think too. There's no coming back from that. I would have been better off if I'd shot somebody."
I wouldn't plan on getting into a debate now on a pro-Paterno side, though.

I like Reynolds talking about base-running, infield defense, switch hitting... being inside a clubhouse, and the different things a player faces. He can add value to a discussion. There are things he can add to a conversation that Kenny can not.
I've said it before, and repeatedly: if they just made Reynolds the "Diamond Demos" guy, and stationed him in that part of the studio to talk about only things like those you mention, he would be perfectly fine and I would enjoy hearing what he has to say. However, that has never been his job at MLB Network, and the good gets lost in all of the noise from the bad. Just like what was happening with McCarver for the past decade: once you moved away from what was directly in front of him, it was a disaster.

I don't think I've ever actually heard Reynolds call a game.
He used to do the Little League World Series on ESPN, and I don't remember any specific problem with that. Of course, that's the kind of job where there is very little analysis to do surrounding the event: it's just what is happening on the field and some human-interest stuff about the kids themselves.
The first time they get to the sixth inning and third pitching change and Buck starts making small-talk about something outside that particular game, it will all go to hell.

Yes, I'll call what you and Posnanski did defending him and I don't think it can simply be limited to waiting for more info to come out. But maybe I'm misrembering to use a Roger Clemens "word."
Whatever.

Fox Names Matt Vasgersian and John Smoltz as MLB Announcing Team (Fang's Bites)
A week after announcing that Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci are the “A” MLB on Fox team, we have this stating that MLB Network stalwarts Matt Vasgersian and John Smoltz are another team. They would be likely the “B” team for Fox.

Can the "A" team broadcast a New York/Boston series in Yankee Stadium to start the season so I can REALLY root for the meteor?

@fangsbites Bob Costas, Matt Vasgersian, John Smoltz and Jim Kaat will call MLB Network games this season. @SamRyanMLB will be on-field reporter.

How can you hate Jim Kaat? Or is this a running gag?
He hates anyone who has the ability to call a baseball game while actually understanding what is going on in front of them

That's fine, I'm sure you were a big fan of Joe Morgan after all.
