It's easy to just start singing the Hallelujah Chorus, but he was baseball broadcasting for many, many years. Even if it hasn't gone as well the past few.
I'll be glad to see someone new in the job, especially if they make a really good hire. But I'll still miss him. To a certain point.

I won't miss him...for a long time he has just been the master of the obvious!

Count me as one who likes McCarver. He's got a great voice and tells interesting stories. His analysis may be lacking the past few years, but I don't very much care about that.

This is great news. Now maybe I won't be forced to mute the World Series.

And he'll be much better on those telecasts as it'll be more die hards tuning in..He won't have to state the obvious as much as he did in the playoffs when more casual fans were watching.

McCarver and his "aw shucks" routine wears thin especially for those looking for more in depth analysis.

Sure, but the casual fan who only watches the All Star Game and postseason is the audience they sometimes feel they should cater to.

using my wife as a perfect example, casual fans like and appreciate the "dumbing down" of the National Broadcasts.

You can dumb-down baseball and still talk about it logically, just like you can dumb down science without going into Flat Earth and geocentric theory, and medicine without going into miasma theory.

May you dream of Joe Posnanski and Brian Kenny mud wrestling in banana hammocks.

John Smoltz to join FOX (NY Times)
Another analyst Fox is likely to hire is John Smoltz, whose contract at TBS has expired. He also called games at MLB Network.

John Smoltz sucks.
he doesn't really suck, I'm just preparing for the inevitable "every announcer sucks except Scott Van Pelt" reaction.
