Haven't had any Rangers discussion in a while, but apparently there are reports out of the GM meetings that the Rangers may spend up to 100M this offseason to help build the roster.

I'm all for them working to compete, but they have to have the worst current roster in MLB and their minors aren't that exciting either.

The Orioles have holes at 2B, SS and 3B.

The Rangers have a hole basically everywhere.  Adolis Garcia had a nice year in it's entirety, but posted a .626 OPS in the second half.  Mountcastle struggled in April, but turned it on and had an .853 OPS in the second half. Everything counts, but I'd suggest the projectins for 2022 wouldn't favor Garcia.

Lowe is OK,  Solak is OK.  Garcia is OK.  It's not like they can't add some pieces.  Story is a possibility coming home to Dallas. The Asian kid (Suzuki?) might be a fit in RF.  Jung could be interesting soon and I'd think they draft his brother too....I like Huff ©...

...but ugh....their roster sucks horribly and they are going for it?  Good for them, but it's incredible how terrible their roster is.

So the Rangers will try to be the answer to Steve's question in the other thread.  They have almost nothing for a 'cost controlled core' and they have taken an early shot with Semien at 7/175M.

If they keep him at 2B, ok, but I watched him at SS some this year and he was bad.

Semien certainly turned in a banner year and made it pay off.

Huge deal for someone who was pretty good, but nothing great until his age 30/31 season.

I think the Rangers will end up regretting this one, but they probably have tons of money so doubt they care much.

You almost always regret giving 30 yr olds 7 year deals. Especially a middle inf though. Yikes. Now maybe Texas does something special in the next 2 or 3 years but this just feels like an atrocious move.

$25 mil per for a guy who, most likely, had a career year that will likely never be repeated. At least Chris Davis had a track record when we threw that astronomically horrific contract his way.

He was great in 2018 and 2019 too but I don’t think I would’ve went past 5 years.

Oops. I knew he wasn’t good in 2020, for some reason I thought he broke onto the scene in 2018.

Ehhh. A 4 WAR year, a 3 WAR year, another year at 2.7 WAR with some bad seasons mixed in..... not sure I'm giving that guy 175 million.

Oh for sure especially for a guy that isn’t above average defensively at SS. I think the AAV is fine but two years too long.

Rangers following Semien up with Cole Calhoun and Jon Gray.

I guess I was WAY wrong about Gray.  Good for him....but I'd want to see him out of COL for a year before committing something like that....he could be great...he could be Tyler Chatwood.

Even lousy teams are spending.

Texas and Seattle are turning their pockets out -- and we will continue to cry poor despite being the only team to own TV rights to two franchises.

I almost wish they'd move them to Nashville, not have a team for a few years, and then expand with a real owner (s).

The Rangers still aren’t even a .500 team but at least their fans got to have a couple exciting days in the offseason.

Keith Law also can't pass up a Bob Seger reference.

Wow, Seager, Semien and Gray.  You mean there is more than one way to rebuild?

Not very sold on Semien or Gray at all, but I guess at least they're trying. That's nice.
