I'm a believer in these mid-major cases of "striking while the iron is hot." If he does well in his next job, he'll get something even bigger. Not sure how Dayton is looking next year, but the further he goes, the more I think he should leave -- it's not like they crushed Ohio St or Cuse.

Know this is jest - There's no way Crean is anywhere close to the hot seat yet, is there?

Mike Woodson rumors to Indiana (CBS Sports)
So no I don't think it's so far fetched to see him fired with another bad season next year. It's not quite Kentucky or UCLA, but it's in that immediate next tier of needing to win. He got cut a bit of slack for how Sampson left the program but that honeymoon period is way over.

Crazy. They finished 4th last year in the postseason rankings, 16th the year before. Bad year this year, but it's crazy that just one more would get him canned. I think he's a really good coach. Hell, I'd take him at MD if he does get the ax, and Turge does too.

No, no, not a POS conference like the Big Ten...I was thinking a step UP from the Atlantic 10.

Haa, walked right into that one. You win. (the battle, not the war)

YOu're going to have bragging rights for the next year, let's be honest..Don't think Carolina and Virginia can carry the torch much longer for the ACC these next few weeks.

Looking a little further, it might be a little harder to get out of his contract NEXT YEAR, so he's probably safe until atleast 2016. This is article (ESPN) is from 2012.
The buyout, Glass said, would cost $8 million over the next three years, then drops to $1 million in Year 4 and drops again to $500,000 over the final four years of the deal. School officials said additional contract details will be announce when the deal is formally signed.

CBS Sports: Manhattan's Steve Masiello serious candidate at South Florida
Manhattan coach Steve Masiello has emerged as a serious candidate to replace Stan Heath at South Florida, multiple sources told CBSSports.com on Saturday.
Pitino was asked about Masiello and USF after Louisville's win over Saint Louis on Saturday. Pitino told the Tampa Bay Times that Masiello had asked him about the job on Friday, and, per Pitino, "I said, ‘For you, it's a grand slam.'”

How much of a role can he have on it while he's serving as SVP/coach of the Clippers?

Not sure but he is on the Board at Marquette.
My guess is he'll give advice if asked, but I doubt we'll see him conducting interviews. Nonetheless, it's always good to have an alum like that.

ESPN: Dayton Flyers extend Archie Miller
The Dayton Flyers, who have advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament, have extended the contract of coach Archie Miller through the 2018-19 season, the school announced Monday.
We've seen these coaches sign these deals, whether in principle or not and then leave a week or two later. Let's what happens here.

I have also signed an extension to remain with BSL through the 2022 Calendar year.
$4.5 Million per, with a vesting option for 2023..

ESPN: Schools reach out to Shaka Smart
Marquette and Wake Forest have both reached out and expressed interest to VCU coach Shaka Smart, multiple sources told ESPN.
This could end up being a Boise/Chris Petersen situation where he eventually ends up leaving even if he's already turned down arguably more lucrative jobs. Not sure how VCU's future is looking.
And as Chris B has noted, this applies for pretty much any candidate here..
One issue that could hinder Marquette's chances to land Smart is the fact that the Golden Eagles have both an interim president and athletic director.

That just sounds like two more jobs Marquette can offer him

If Buzz wins at VT and gets them in the tourney a couple of times, he's a god. He could pretty much do what he wants. Also, he's animated, he SEEMS affable, and he's fun to watch.
If he wants to move on after, say, four years, the only way he's going to upgrade is if he makes VT that much better...and VT just might open the pocketbook a little more for him, so he'll get rich regardless.
I mean, really, if he's worth any percentage of a damn as a coach, this can't go wrong for either side.
