We'll probably acquire Flaherty in July for cash or some raw AA pitcher.

He was useable depth capable of playing multiple positions. I question if they will find better.
Eduardo Nunez is much better. Get off their asses and sign him before NY or BOS does.

I don't think anybody would disagree with that. But you are comparing apples and oranges. Nunez is a near starter for many clubs and is going to command a lot more salary than a guy like Flaherty. I would like to see Nunez on the O's for something like 2/15. He could get plenty of playing time and give us a solid option if we trade Manny at the ASB.

Flaherty was the only Oriole to homer in the 2012 and 2014 playoffs.
Fun Fact!

I have been bitching about this all off season.
He would play 4 or 5 positions, keep people rested, get 450 AB's and be the lead off guy.
I laugh when I heard one of 105.7's experts, say, they liked Flaherty more because he is a left handed hitter. No, Flaherty makes outs from the left side. Please give me a right hand hitter who can hit over a left hand hitter who can not.

Hah. We're gonna beg for Flaherty back when they replace him with a version who has the same AAA slash line as Flaherty's MLB numbers. No chance they spend money on a guy who actually helps (or sign a real 3B and push Beckham into that role) off of the bench.
My guess is they try to teach Craig Gentry how to play middle infield.

Worked for Steve Pearce.

Wrong. McLouth hit one. Should have had 2.

Read it as in both.

He means Flaherty is the only guy to hit one in both '12 and '14. McLouth wasn't on the team in '14.

Got it.
We won't miss Flaherty but we'll sign him when he's DFA'ed at some point this year.

I still feel he could have been an everyday second baseman...not an elite one but someone who would t have hurt you, especially when his contract was cheap.

It always seemed to me like Flaherty's problem was that he had the skillset to be the perfect utility player... except he could only hit when given regular playing time.
Also, I saw him once at Whole Foods. Here's a list of my (possibly imagined) Whole Foods Harbor East celebrity sightings:
Ryan Flaherty
Rick Dempsey
Brian Roberts
Brian Roberts's wife
Mayor Pugh
Sam Cassell
Joe Maddon

But that's why he was a utility player.... if he could hit more "on demand" he wouldn't have been a utility player, he'd have been a starting player somewhere.... just like he would have been here if not for Schoop....

But a utility player can still get a load of at bats. You just use him several times a week to rest different starters. Everybody stays fresh and you utility guy can stay decent hitting wise instead of always coming in cold.
And you can avoid Buck's Funday Sunday lineups.
