Btw, I don’t usually pay attention to these things but is there a Stafford can’t win in the playoffs narrative?

Younger than Stafford (albeit less talented), but coupled with the picks I like the deal for the Lions.

Stafford is better than Goff.
Stafford is more likely to get the Rams to the next level near term. But he does turn 33 next week.
Goff is still a capable QB and will be fine in Detroit.
But holy cow those draft picks. Lions came out ahead on this one.

Either way...2 firsts and a 3rd for Stafford. What is Watson worth? 4 firsts? There is gonna have to be a star player worth a decent amount going to Houston along with a couple firsts and more.

Is Goff a positive asset in this deal or negative? Like Brock Osweiler where if they didn't take him back would they have gotten fewer draft picks? His contract is mostly salary so he will still count $25-28M against the cap. But after 2021 they can get out of all of that by cutting him.

Word was that 1 first and a 3rd for Stafford and then another first to take Goff and his salary back.

I think Goff has $27.5M guaranteed (2021 salary and roster bonus) left on his deal. So that money had to be paid even if LA cuts him, and is the monetary amount Detroit is taking on at a minimum.Word was that 1 first and a 3rd for Stafford and then another first to take Goff and his salary back.
So $27.5M for a 1st round pick in two years. Seems reasonable. I think Osweiler was $18M for a current 2nd round pick, IIRC.

If the Lions plan to tank this season, then they probably couldn't care less over carrying Goff's heavy cap weight and cutting him loose after the season. Only thing is 2022 looks kind of weak in terms of QBs in the draft. Other than Sam Howell I don't see any obvious 1st Round picks, though I'm sure others are higher on Kedon Slovis than I am.

Think Sewell is gonna be great.
But Goff is throwing to Tyrell Williams, Breshad Perriman, and Quintez Cephus.
They may have needed DeVonta Smith.
