Solid apology, glad he personally apologized to Laurenzi at least.

He did what he had too. If he had done this "apology" in Spring Training 2012 with his hot gf on his shoulders, I would be a lot more forgiving even if he wasn't truly sorry. Honestly I thought it was a solid statement, he owned up to it and gave us all the details we really needed and more. He didn't pretend like he didn't know what he was doing was wrong and it was just "medication" that shouldn't have tested positive. Most important part was that he singled out the collector, who he previously tarnished. His lawyers did a good job writing it!

Like we've talked about with "B-Roid" and "PEDitte," they apologized for their limited usage (however "limited" it actually was) and moved on. When you lie, you have to cover up that lie, and so on and so forth.

Agreed, but in terms of scripted BS apologies, it was at least decent.

Absolutely, like I said content-wise it was great. Now he needs to get on Oprah's couch and cry like a baby.

It really was pretty well crafted.

@adbrandt Saw Ryan Braun statement; nice of him to write from vacation before returning next year to $120 million left on his contract.

I know it's easy to be cynical, so, I'll ask:

What could he have said in his statement that would have been "right"?

Like anything else, people are going to nitpick. Did he say, "sorry," "humiliated," "embarrassed," did he single out the collector, did he apologize to the fans/to all of baseball/to the owner, did he offer to give the MVP to Kemp. The pundits are always going to have their checklist and won't be satisfied.

Mulder made a good point though -- he said he found it hard to believe everyone associate with him was in the dark when Braun said he was told the cream and a lozenge were help in the recovery.

Also, he failed to identify what this "nagging injury" was that didn't stop him from winning the MVP. And while he didn't say he only used it once, he certainly implied it.

The statement was a good start. I do think he needs to "face the music." He needs to do a press conference where there is nothing off-limits. I joke about crying on Oprah, but I think he needs to do that.

Like I said, no matter what he does, he'll be criticized for not being sorry enough, taking enough responsibility, or forgetting to mention X, Y, Z of the "code words" he should've used.

I think that's fair to say, all the columns were about how "sorry wasn't enough." That's why I was fine with his statement, I just think he needs to talk to the press instead of issuing a statement to them.

Yea, if anything, he should have done it "in person" rather than issuing a statement.

He could have pulled out a katana and committed seppuku and people would have been pissed he took the easy way out.

My son's best friend's Uncle is making his ML starting debut today for the Brewers, Jimmy Nelson is his name...We're watching on the Ipad as I type....Anyhow, if any of the ML guys can give me an overview if they know anything of him, that'd be great...looks like a big kid, good stuff from what I've seen so far.

Thanks.

Pretty cool Seth.

I'm not familiar with him, but looking him up.. does have the size you mentioned. 6'5, 245 lbs.

2nd round pick in 2010 out of the University of Alabama.

2013 was split between the Southern and Pacific Coast Leagues.

2013 combined (AA & AAA) numbers: 10-10, 3.25 era, 152.1 ip, 137 hits, 7 hr's, 65 k's, 163 k's

That's a fair amount of walks, but guessing by his draft position and the hits & k's per ip - that he has a live arm.

Turned 24 in June.

Thanks, Chris...Very live arm it seems..Cruised through the first three innings, but really struggled in the 4th, 3 walks, but got it together to get out of it only allowing a run.

Hopefully he has a future in the bigs.

Bob Ueaker to get statue...in last row.

http://www.jsonline..../241502811.html

“I can’t think of a better place to put this statue,” Uecker said. “This will be great for fans and even better for pigeons.  You might even be able to see a little part of the field.”

ESPNFrancisco Rodriguez steps on cactus

Francisco Rodriguez has taken Cactus League play to a whole new level.

The veteran Milwaukee Brewers reliever stepped barefoot on a cactus earlier this week and may not be able to make his scheduled spring training debut Thursday, manager Ron Roenicke told reporters Wednesday morning.
