I know a fastball can not 'rise', but his rising fastball gets a lot of swings and misses. Not a lot of velocity, but obviously he gives hitters a look they don't often see.
The fact that he had similar success in '09, and '10 makes one believe that he could have a decent chance of repeating this success again going forward.
What a fantastic year he has had.

Totally agree, nothing bugs me more than seeing multi-year contracts to these so-called "proven" relievers. In Gonzo's case it was worse as we gave up a draft pick for the "privilige" of getting him.O'Day (and guys like him) are the epitome of why you don't give stupid contracts to the likes of Mike Gonzalez and Kevin Gregg.
The year they didn't spend on the 'pen is the year they do the best, who knew?

Amen. So many examples, hopefully the Omar Daal days are over.

I don't really have favorite players, but I enjoy having him on the team.

I'm glad O'Day isn't just assuming that last year was an anomaly and that he'd just naturally end up getting lefties out at a similar clip to previous years. I think that's likely what would've happened without him making any changes, but it's always good to try and come up with something new, and a changeup is very effective pitch to have against opposite handed hitters. Hopefully it works for him.

It would be great if O'Day can get back to getting lefties out at a high rate, whether that's because of the changeup or just returning to the approach that used to work. If the change becomes an average or better pitcher, you have to like his chances at fairing at least as well against lefties as he used to.

Todd Frohwirth? Now THAT'S a blast from the past. Excited to see what O'Day can do with a changeup.
