Yeah, they can't go into the season with Eflin/Rodriguez/Kremer then piece together Saurez/Rogers/Povich/McDermott for the 4th and 5th spots. They might try to sneak one of those guys through at #5, but they can't consume 2 spots.

They'll add a SP, minimum.

I would like them to sign Jeff Hoffman as a starter and trade for Zac Gallen. Maybe take on Montgomery’s contract to help make it happen. Mounty and Kremer for Gallen and Montgomery? Something like that.

I think most agree the O's will sign at least one starter. The question surrounds the quality of that starter. True TOR guy, solid middle of the order guy, or flyer hoping to catch lightning in a bottle?

Agreed. Also a question of maybe do they consider acquiring two? Think that's about as unlikely as them landing a true frontline starter, but not zero.

My guess is it'll be one guy who is on the lower end of solid middle and I'll be disappointed with that.

Lol, you don't think they'll add a single pitcher? Ok.

I expect to be disappointed with what they do, but they're definitely gonna do something.

They will add a pitcher for sure. I just don't know that it will be one that matters.

The Cubs seem intent on relieving themselves of Bellinger.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

His career started in that juiced ball era. 111 HR in his first three seasons. 85 HR in his next five seasons.

Just doesn’t hit the ball hard.

Yeah, he went from a guy who use to have very good to great metrics to very poor.

Don't know how much the ball affects exit velo, hard hit, barrel pct, but he fell off a cliff around age 25.

Has 3 years left on his deal, plus a vesting option for 2028. 72.45 million plus another $25 million for 2028 if he manages to throw 180 IP in 2027.

I'd certainly take him, but not sure I'd offer up much more than Mountcastle.

Agree it shouldnt cost a lot. Sea needs something back though that helps them in '25. I could see Mounty being the biggest part of a deal for sure. He still has a good amount of red on savant

Speaking of Mounty, if he stays I see him bouncing back in the slug department.

He's one of the better pure hitters on the team. Power numbers should improve with the wall coming back in. Do think it messed with him some mentally.

Personally, I'd like to hang onto Mounty and find pitching in FA.

I'm not sure I'd even offer Mounty straight up for him. Castillo's value is down.

Is this a joke? I seriously can't tell. Castillo has been worth 8.1 WAR over the last 3 years. He's a salary dump for the Mariners but there will be interest and it will certainly take more than Mountcastle.

That said, I'd be pissed if we lose Burnes to anyone but a west coast team. And if we lose him to the Red Sox along with Crochet they would no doubt leap frog us in the balance of power in the AL East.

Hence my frustration with the "he's too much" thinking. IF we end up sitting by and going cheap and get leap frogged by others in the ALE then this will be a bust of an offseason.
