So guess Cole got a do-over on his decision to opt out? Or it was not official that he did it. He's back with the Yankees under the original terms of 4/$144M.

I don't think he beats the average per year but since he is so young I think he gets a long enough deal to beat the total NPV of Ohtani's deal.
A 14-year deal only takes him through his 30s. Ohtani just signed through 38. Machado through 40. Judge through 39. Bogaerts through 40. Turner through 40. Soto is going to get at least 12 years and maybe 15. 11 years at $45M a year surpasses Ohtani's NPV. So would 13 years at $40M a year or 15 years at $36M a year.

For AL MVP, Judge got all 30 first place votes, and Witt got all 30 second place. Gunnar finished 4th and Santander 14th.

MLB.com: Are these 2 teams the most likely landing spots for Soto?

2/$34M for Frankie Montas with the Mets. That's the first deal that is a lot bigger than I'd have guessed. 2 years seemed doable, but not at that high of an AAV and also with an opt-out after the first year and $17M. Solid track record, but he's coming off a year with a 4.84 ERA.

Rosenthal et al from the Athletic have reported that multiple teams have made formal offers to Soto in excess of $600M.
