That's an excellent article. Lots of good/interesting info, but wanted to pull this out for anyone not reading it...
“I’ve written some big checks for Carlyle over the years, so we’ve put alot of money into deals and it’s not like I’m going to have a shock at the size of the dollars that might be involved,” he said. “The trick is getting the opportunity to do that.”
You still have to have the opportunity to spend. The goal isn't to spend, the goal is to have/leverage the resources when you need them to do whatever it is you think you need to (or can = opportunity) do.
Don't really understand why people think there's going to be wild spending this offseason....on what? It's not about accumulation of Talent, you can always do that. It's about getting the most out of the group and that's not about spending. That's what Elias has to do. He likely needs to change some of the names to get to a roster that allows the next iteration of Leadership to consume the space. We'll see if it works. We moved away from what did work, make space for the next group...not what we did in 2024.
The simplest offseason, probably the "B" version of the offseason, likely sees little movement in payroll.
If they want to get creative and burn some money to get to whatever (more of an "A" offseason feel), you can probably do that, but don't think Elias is (has proven to be) that guy.
The roster is currently full (every position except maybe b/u C) so anything you do is more active management, but pretty easy to do nothing. I think doing nothing is a mistake, and they can build the better roster and the payroll could actually go down.
