We’ll learn a lot about the things that ultimately matter to us this off season.

I agree with Ricker.
They completely own the Orioles now. And they've had control of the team for a full season, so they have their sea legs under them. The team is officially a playoff contender now. There's no more rebuild, there's no more letting the market set itself, no more testing the parameters (or whatever that Flanny comment was). This is it. This is the unquestionable moment.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

The other thing I found interesting in there is the commentary around how when he asks or pushes back on Elias on baseball things, it's about curiosity but isn't about overriding him. Elias also made a comment that "now all of a sudden people here care about baseball" - he framed it as a good thing in this public interview, but I'm wondering how they really feel about all of that. Autonomy is in his contract, but it's interesting to hear about this new dynamic.

My take on that is the new group cares about the baseball aspect of owning a franchise, as opposed to simply wanting to earn income off the club - which makes sense since pretty much everyone in the new group has already earned a ton of money elsewhere and they theoretically don't need to do that to pay their bills. If I'm right, then I expect to see some of this stuff like ugly patches and rescinding beer discounts reflected in the team payroll.

If they do nothing, it'll be about $95M, same as 2024. dude is tracking this in the baseline roster thread. Not necessarily the right thread but Id like to hear predictions on payroll for '25.
I'll guess somewhere in the $130M range. I think they'll do multiple medium-sized moves but nothing big.
If I had Rubenstein's resources, I'd be looking at multiple big moves, go up to the $170M range.

How are they at 95 mil again this year losing Santander and Burnes. Arb raises account for that much?
Yup. Plus adding Eflin, Dominguez and Soto who'll make over $30M next year (assuming Dominguez option is picked up and Soto is tendered).

I think we may push closer to $150. I actually dont want ownership to give out a 200+ mil contract anyway.
While I tend to agree I think it depends on 2 things.
1. The contract you are making.
2. Keeping up with the Joneses. Gotta stay competitive.

The ugly patches and miniscule savings from rescinding beer discounts aren't doing much to impact payroll.
Sounds like a couple people here would disagree on the beer part.

Well, it certainly sucked for those who were season ticket holders and took advantage of the discount.
I don't think removing the discount will have any part in whether the team significantly raises payroll or not.

Not that it would happen, but you wouldn't want to sign Burnes?
