As much as I hate the idea of Chris Davis in right, it seems to me the best chance of production against RHers is Davis in right, Betemit as the DH. Avery and Ford can be the defensive replacement late in games. You play Betemit exclusively vs. RHP the rest of the way, and you should get production out of him.

It is not clear if he could return for the post season. Losing his bat from the left side hurts.

Betemit hurt his wrist in bp yesterday, and is likely done for the year according to Girholi.

Dammit!!!!!!
Nick's injury didn't really hurt the club offensively that much at all against righties since Betemit was taking his place and basically making up for the production. But without him and Nick, the lineup is really depleted against righties. A healthy and a productive Thome would be of great help. Otherwise, it's not pretty. I guess Ford plays in RF so Davis can DH, which helps the D, but is a big drop-off on offense.

I'm thinking a lot of that is because he's been out a lot, so his contributions are not fresh in peoples' minds...Do people dislike Betemit so much that they don't recognize how much of a loss this is?

Your basic point is right... but you also gotta remember that until about 50 AB's ago, we've seen the worst version of Endy there ever was... the last 50 AB's look like he's trying to make up for it...Well whatever the reasons for people's apparent malaise on this, they should be aware of how much it hurts to lose a guy who has an .859 OPS against righties this year. That is the best of anyone on the team and his bat is being replaced by Endy Chavez, who is doing a great job as of now, but I don't think you can expect much from his bat going forward.

Sure, but he's not much of an offensive player regardless.

Overall not... but for the last 50-some AB's he has been... anybody can get helpful for a couple weeks...Sure, but he's not much of an offensive player regardless.

"Wilson Betemit will not need surgery on his right wrist.
The determination was made after he visited a hand specialist Monday. Betemit will receive a cortisone shot and is likely done for the season, though Orioles manager Buck Showalter has not officially ruled him out."
Have we seen anything that indicates Betemit could return for the Playoffs?

I haven't seen anything, but even if he is, who does he replace? Tolleson?

A healthy Betemit would and should start vs righties, especially without Nick. So I don't think finding him a spot would be a challenge at all.
I don't foresee him returning, though.
