I think it's funny how bi-polar the reactions are here. Wednesday a lot of people here had the O's missing the playoffs. Take a look at the standings, that's not happening. The team is too good to go on the kind of losing streak that would allow that. Now, after two big wins people are again saying the can win the WS. That's certainly possible because once you get in, anything can happen. The reality of the matter is that the pitching is probably not good enough to win the multiple series needed to win a WS. But you never know. If they go on a two game losing streak I'm sure everyone will have them missing the playoffs again. Just relax. They will make the playoffs. And we will see what happens from there.

It's a game thread -- it's heat of the moment stuff.
I've said this repeatedly -- I *try* to keep the bizarre, end of the world takes contained to the game thread. Sometimes, I leak off the page, that's my bad.
I don't think people should be too criticized for what they say in those threads. It's a world beyond reason.
There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

I agree. We all meltdown and throw things during games in every sport. People should be allowed to vent in game threads and get a pass. If we could curse here it would be a lot worse.

100% game threads should be allowed to vent more. I used to meltdown really bad and I can still get on a roll at times about certain things. Im conscious of trying not to be hypocritical, but the posts that are throwing in the towel bug the crap out of me. It just feels like you'd rather tap out than fight. I dont get the mindset. I understand its coping, but does it hurt to just throw in a small sliver of reason. SOmething like, "we are playing like trash right now. If we dont get things turned around we will collapse".

I find it wild that most of us have been together going on 20 some years now (how crazy is that?) between the Fox Hole and over here on BSL. And so many still feel the need to be critical of how people react to sports.
1. People are who they are and process the world the way they process the world.
2. No amount of internet posters coming at them will ever change that. Therapy could, maybe, but definitely not internet sniping.
3. No harm no foul.
And yet, it's one of the kinds of posts you can most rely on. People being sanctimonious about how less reactive and less emotional and more stable they are than you. It's obnoxious, especially when you zoom out and see the pattern.

Also, as to not be a hypocrite - I've made similar types of posts as the one above ever since I've been on Orioles message boards, so I guess maybe that's obnoxious too. I should just move on and not think a second more about it, just like those being critical and smug should. I guess I'm part of the problem I'm describing, but on the opposite side of the coin.

At this point, I'm good with saying, "People are going to fan as they want to fan."
If someone is reactionary, extreme, etc in game threads... and that's cathartic to them, okay I guess.
But it's also 100% if others aren't good with that style of positing.

For me its not about being sanctimonious. Im certainly emotional. I just dont like the giving up. Thats a trigger for me. But I have started participating in less game threads. Thats my only real option to avoid being triggered and thats ok. The next step is probably to just skip over the game threads the next day instead of reading them. LOL

It doesn't bother me in the least if members meltdown early in the game and throw in the towel. It's just human nature relative to sports. It's always been that way and always will. So, for people to get upset about it, I find pretty silly. What I do dislike is certain posters(and they know who they are), who feel the need to get personal and denigrate others(actually, just a few) while trying to look like they're posting something important, which of course, they aren't.

There have been probably 10 separate game threads where you've cherry picked one negative comment I've made, so I'm glad to see now you acknowledge that was the wrong thing to do.

I completely agree with literally all of this, but when there is a blatant double standard regarding how and to who the above is applied, it's hard not to notice.I find it wild that most of us have been together going on 20 some years now (how crazy is that?) between the Fox Hole and over here on BSL. Youve been better of late and I give you credit for that. What got you in trouble was you were relentlessly negative at one time. Every section. Every thread. Every post. Anyone would get the ribbing you got if they were negative that much. There isnt a double standard. Ricker is a legit personal friend of mine and we call each other out on here at times.

Your negativity re: Ravens spreads across the entire forum
There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

You earned it bud. Own it. You don’t get to throw a fit in every thread for 3 years, be a good boy for 4-5 weeks then snipe at others. Nah son.

This is blatant hyperbole. I own my Ravens negativity and dont run from it. But I'm not the same guy with the O's. I don't think I ever have been, at least since they've shown results.

I have nothing against Ricker personally. I don't have anything against anyone here personally to be honest.
The Ravens frustrate me in a way the Orioles just haven't of late. I can't explain why, but they have.
