What Mackus said. Not Rogers' fault. It's on Elias.

I'm similarly suffering from misplaced expectations.  I agree Rogers is only a 5th starter and this is all we can ask from him.  It's not his fault he isn't better.  It's Elias' fault for not getting a better SP which we needed.  Gonna be obnoxious that we need to bring it up every 5th day, but it was a clear need and Rogers doesn't fill it.

I agree, it's on Elias.  More was needed.

I'm also not completely sure he's better (or better enough to trade for) than Irvin... but at-least he presents another option, and I do believe he's better than Povich...  I did like that it moved Suarez to the pen (though I have more confidence in Suarez).

So.... a 5th starter?

That's what they brought him in for.
To be a better 5th option than what they had... and I think because they wanted Suarez in the pen.

Obviously Suarez now has to jump back into the rotation.. and yeah, I think they should have aimed higher.

They already have a 5th starter. Dean Kremer. And if need be, there's still Cole Irvin 1.0.

So yes, they did need to aim higher, not just for the present but also for the next 2 seasons that Rogers will potentially be on the roster.

Saying the O's needed to do better than Rogers is reasonable, and accurate imo.
Saying Rogers needs to be better than a 5th starter is not.  That's who he is.

He does represent a different option than the 5th starter options that existed... Irvin, Suarez, Povich...   and did allow you to move Suarez to the pen.

Did we clarify if he is a MLB 5th starter or a AAA 5th starter? Cause kinda looks like an org arm for AA for me.

I'd imagine they're trying to tweak some things in AAA.

Horrible start, but I can't imagine actual results are his main focus right now.

I will be fine if he never puts on an O's ML uniform again.

You seem to take these things very personally. It’s not out of the question that he becomes a reliable #4 starter for next year. You’ll never forgive him for the 3 bad starts?

I expressed a viewpoint. Every viewpoint is personal. And I made a longer post about this in another thread. If the O's go into the off season penciling him in the OD rotation I view that as a major mistake. They need to have 6 guys in the rotation (at least) outside of Rogers. IF they figure some things out with him over the winter and in ST then fantastic. Bonus for the team.

But they went into this season knowing they had some high risk injury potential in 3 guys and they didn't address that enough last off season. I don't want to repeat that this winter. Rogers should not be figured on for 2025 but if he turns it around great. But don't plan on that.

Ok. You said you never wanted to see him in an Orioles uniform again but if he starts making changes and somehow gets back to being an effective starter you wouldn’t be against him coming into ST next year with a chance to make the team, would you? Not guaranteed a spot in the rotation but with a chance to win a job.

Pretty sure I can read, Steve. No need to be a grouch.

I am not sure it much matters,  I was having a hard time seeing him make the staff.  That feels like a very bad trade.

Ranks right up there with trading Tanner Scott for pocket lint as the worst of this regime. Maybe Elias just needs to self-impose a moratorium on any trades with the Marlins.

As discussed, even if he turns out to be really good the trade still will have sucked. We needed help at the time the trade was made and he was in no position to do that. Sign him over the winter because you think he can get turned around? Great go for it.

This isn't in response to Steve, it's just where my head is at right now.

For better or worse, that trade is done. But I hope it's for the better. That was a stunningly fantastic outing. I hope we get a lot more like it.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

He looked really good yesterday. Velocity was up, slider looked crisp. He was hitting his spots effectively.

He was getting rocked in the minors so I'll remain skeptical, but it was a positive start. He earned more chances.
