It's all just baseball / sports discussion.
Not that serious. Just a diversion from the rest of life.
All Orioles fans with October approaching.
Disagreement is good. Discussion is good.
We should all strive to not make things personal even when frustrated.

Yup. I stepped over the line with a few folks the other day. Had been drinking but no excuse.

It’s a hobby.

Rogers was the worst of a couple bad trades on deadline day.

It's not the moves themselves, it's the overpay. I HATE Stowers and Norby for a 5th starter. Those are two MLB starters, not even on a bad team. If pitching is that expensive ride it out with Povich, move McDermott to the pen and let that strikeout rate go crazy at max effort.

And no, I don't think he's a clear upgrade over the unknown and inexperienced Povich even.

The only move I didn't HATE was Hays. Traded away most of my favorite under the top level sleepers and got nothing real helpful back. Traded for another OF when you just traded Hays to open up space. Why not play Heston and Coby? They need MLB at bats anyway.

I can't believe that OAK wouldn't have taken Norby, Stowers and a couple of those sleepers for Miller. Although I get the nervousness of dealing for a guy fighting injury that throws 103. Could be another big injury coming there. Hell I would have been happier had they traded Norby and Stowers for Scott. I just have a hard time imagining teams being THAT dumb that their demands were THAT high...but also definitely possible.

1. Norby has a decent chance to be a ML starter. Position unknown. Stowers is AAAA and is less than 50/50 to be a starter. The A’s would have let out a collective, nervous chuckle and said “Are you serious?”

Come on, man. Was reasonable until this. You can believe it, I'm sure.

It's over. Done with. And the simple fact is that we don't know anything except for the trades that were made. Anything else is conjecture. Dang I hate off days.

I'm interested to see how he looks the next few starts.  I don't have a problem judging the trade on his past results but I'm giving him a pretty big pass on his first start here.  He got to the clubhouse apparently 3 hours before the start and the Guardians knocked pretty much all of our pitchers around that series.  They're pretty hot offensively right now.

Im hoping he can keep his head above water down the stretch here and the offseason is where the team can really get to him analytically and mechanically.

I did like how Rogers got himself out of that pickle in the fourth.

Yep, 5ip, 7 hits, 2 er, 2 bb's, 2 k's....   gladly take that.

Eh, only 2 K's with an equal amount of walks isn't generally going to get it done. He had some back luck on defense (Mayo) and with some soft contact (the bloop over Jackson), but also probably some good overall luck on contact given how much of it he allowed.

He gives up a lot of hard contact. Still looks like Cole Irvin 2.0 to me….can give you some quality starts here and there, but not sustainable as a long term rotation piece.

I think the results were better, I would not agree that he looked better IMO. Dude gives up a ridiculous amount of hard contact and puts a lot of pressure on his defense. The Jays are top heavy on their offense (Vlad, basically), so it worked out last night. It's not that I'm rooting against him, I hope he figures it out, but I think it's going to be a longer term fix. Even Cole has had stretches like the one he was on when we traded for him this year.

So.... a 5th starter?

That's what they brought him in for.
To be a better 5th option than what they had... and I think because they wanted Suarez in the pen.

Obviously Suarez now has to jump back into the rotation.. and yeah, I think they should have aimed higher.

Not good enough for my liking. 7 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings is going to lose you more games than it will win you.

All you can hope for from a 5th starter imo is that they keep you in the game.  Can't expect it to be pretty.
You are just looking for them to find a way to not immediately take you out of games.

I'm similarly suffering from misplaced expectations.  I agree Rogers is only a 5th starter and this is all we can ask from him.  It's not his fault he isn't better.  It's Elias' fault for not getting a better SP which we needed.  Gonna be obnoxious that we need to bring it up every 5th day, but it was a clear need and Rogers doesn't fill it.
