AS brought up Stanton's name after the Marlins trade.

So, would you deal Dylan Bundy for him?

For the purposes of this thread, yes.

Then without a second thought.

True Ace starters are much harder to come by than Star OF. Don't get me wrong, I would love to watch Giancarlo crush balls out of Camden Yards but I think that Bundy is really special.

Well, you're crazy

He's 22, already has 93 homers and a .900+ OPS for his career, and plays a great right field. He'd probably be the first righty to hit Eutaw Street.

Bundy isn't an ace yet and he has a bigger injury risk.

Plenty of stud projects have failed.

Stanton is already a beast.

Still, I can see why you say no...surprised its so definitive though.

You've got a hunk of rock that might be anything from almost solid gold to no metal at all, and you're being offered a large lump of silver in exchange.

I'm kinda with him there. I might be able to be talked into it on Manny. MIGHT. But I think Bundy is about as solid of a chance as you can have of having a legit MVP candidate pitcher.

I see Bundy as a Verlander type. I would give anything to have a guy like Verlander going out there every 5th day.

Stanton ha gaudy numbers but it's a hell of a lot easier to replace his production than it is to replace the potential production of Bundy.

You could sign Greinke.

False analogy IMO.

It's more like a hunk of rock where you can see the glint of gold, but most of it's covered in dirt so you can't be sure vs. a large lump of silver.

Unlike some sabermetric guys I'll take the prospects over the proven player if both sides are equal 9 times out of 10.

Greinke is a top of the rotation starter... he is not an ace. He still has ace upside, but he's not one.

Yeah I just said to SG that I see Bundy in the Verlander/Strasburg/Kershaw class, I couldn't part with that personally. I think it would be HUGE for the org. to get Stanton though, and could possibly be talked into giving up Manny for that, because I think he'll out OPS Manny by about .200 a season, but the hole that leaves us at 3B scares me.

Reimold, Matusz, Britton, Schoop and Strop? That would pain me a bit...and I think it's overpaying a bit in a 5-1 but i'd do it.

Ideally he's a great #2, an ace and a TOR are the same thing. Get what you are saying though...just semantics.

I agree...but you aren't getting a Stanton player or one close to him in free agency.

Now, you may be able to get Justin Upton for less and he can be as good.

But Greinke can be 80-90% of Bundy...IF Bundy reaches his ceiling.

Overpaying? Are you serious? If you could get Stanton for basically any 5 players in the organization outside of Bundy and Manny, you do it.

I generally break it out as...

Ace
Verlander
Kershaw
Price
Cain

Top of the Rotation
CC Sabathia
Hamels
Gio Gonzalez
Halladay
Greinke
CJ Wilson
etc.

In my eyes there's a clear separation between Aces like Verlander and Top of the Rotation guys like Hamels/Greinke.
