If Crochet can pitch this October he's worth one of the top-25 guys plus a good bit more. If he can't, then he's not. I am very confident that he won't be traded for less, so I think the plausibility of a Crochet trade rests entirely on if you think Elias (or any front office) have an actionable plan to keep him available for the postseason or not. My guess is not and he stays in Chicago.

How about George Kirby or Logan Gilbert? And those two have 3-4 years control. Seattle needs hitting bad. They're 27th in runs and dead-last in avg. (.216). Crochet's limited this year, anyway.

Yeah one of each is the bear minimum. And two RP if the one guy isn't a stud (not sure any studs are actually available but Scott might count).
I don't know the answer as to whom to go get and at what cost. But I do know they need serious outside help. This team is too good to head to October without at least a solid upgrade to the rotation and the bullpen.
I'm ok with rentals or only solid additions later than studs with control. Ok with holding onto all the top-20 type guys since that is serious talent. But we've got the depth to fill all our glaring holes.

Agreed, 100%.

Yeah just worry about this year. If you can find a team controlled SP thats great but go for it this year even if it means rentals. Would need a big offseason in FA or on the trade market for '25 but we will worry about '25 after this year is over. A vet with another year left would be great and wont cost one of the top 3 prospects. THink a guy like Bassitt or Eovaldi if he hits his vesting option. Efflin would fall in this category too

No matter what we are going to find out a lot about this ownership between now and the start of the '25 season. I do not expect, nor do I mind, that they wont give Burnes 300 mil. They have to spend significant money to help the pitching staff. Assuming GRod stays healthy he is the only sure thing for the '25 rotation as of today.

Safe to say Kremer will probably be a part of the 2025 rotation at this point.
Only because of how things look now with Bradish and Wells out. Irvin being crap. Burnes expected to be gone. Maybe Dean finishes strong and you can safely pencil him in in '25 but if he is a 4.50 ERA guy or higher and he is being penciled in just because he can throw innings and not be totally terrible thats not good.

At this point Kremer is likely our #2 guy behind only GRod heading into December. I don't care how much you like Kremer that sucks.
