I'd love Crochet moving forward but it doesn't solve their pitching issues this year.

I was on the Cease is overrated train this offseason as well but he’s been fantastic for the Padres. I was wrong on that one even tho I still prefer Burnes if they only could have one/the price.

You may want to review his numbers since the end of April.  Since the beginning of May he's been worse than Patrick Corbin.

Has he? ERA over 6 in his past 10 starts, which is over half the season. I admit I haven't even seen him pitch this year...

I very much support use of this gauge to grade pitching performance moving forward.

However, there’s plenty of good reasons to try to keep O’Hearn and Santander in Baltimore the next few years.

Let O'Hearn playout his '25 season in Baltimore and then let somebody else sign him. He'll be 31 later this month. Hard pass on extending a poor fielding platoon bat on the wrong side of 30.

I'd be cool with a three year deal with Santander though.

As for Kjerstad? He'd net you a legit SP in return, if Aaron Civale for a AA prospect outside the Brewers top 20 prospects list happened the other day. I know not all things are equal, but yeah, Kjerstad would headline a package for a significant SP if that's any indication.

Mayo? If he's a 3B, then his potential is massive. You don't trade guys like that for rentals.

Basallo? He's got solid #s for a 19 yo in AA. Jury's out, but the return would be huge.

Use Cowser or Kjersted to lead a Crochet deal. Id prefer Cowser go but I understand either one. Its close.

Cowser's value right now is defense in LF and CF. The WPA is SSS - AF but that is what it is. He'll either hit his way out of that or be a 4th OF. Considering how good he is in the OF, the drop-off to relying on Hays would be folly. And Mullins, despite being a great OF, his speed has diminished considerably. Cowser represents plan A in LF or plan B in CF. Moving him does not make sense.

The guy to move is Basallo if you can get Crochet back. Kjerstad shouldn't be required.

You can get Crochet without givig up either one but you should give up 1 of them. Both are going to be decent regs and nothing more. Trade one now while they can get lead a package to get  you a Crochet for 2 more years. In 3 years they will both be the next Hays. A decent reg but guys you wont even be sure you control through all of their team  controlled years

Cowser's upside is way higher than Hays'.

If it's going to cost a Kjerstad (or a Cowser), forget it. You don't deal from your starting lineup. Go get Scherzer when Texas is prepared to sell. He won't cost anywhere near that.

Nah dont forget it. Trade the next Austin Hays for a potential #1 or #2 SP for 2.5 years

Basallo is absolutely not the guy to trade.

If you have Cowser pegged as the 'next Austin Hays' then how is it you think Chicago accepts a package built around Cowser?

The math doesn't work.

You're dealing a Basallo or a Mayo for Crochet.

Then Scherzer is the arm to target.

I would bet a sizable amount of beer that both Kjerstad and Cowser become far better than Hays unless either has their career derailed by injury.

I'd still trade either for Crochet but I don't believe you need to trade them because their value has peaked.

Why is there no talk about Jake Irvin? Is it all smoke and mirrors what he's doing? Dude is killing it.

Hmm...

If Baltimore is willing to take on a sizable portion of the remaining salary, the cost wouldn't be that much.

I wouldn't trade a starting LF (at Camden Yards) for a pitcher. The fallback is Hays. He gets hurt, and his range is diminished. Kjerstad is a huge get, and yeah, they'd bite, but it shouldn't cost that much.

Then again, I find Kjerstad more valuable than Basallo, and that's cuz there's no guarantee of success at the next level.
