Its wildly useful information though, unlike nonsense situational splits and other factoids we used to (and still do) get. How hard you hit the ball is directly related to how often you get a hit. Its more important than velocity of pitches. It'll never go away, so get used to it. Probably will just get more detailed and they'll start correlating with launch angle and direction to come up with a quality measurement of basically every batted ball. That'd be a great way to start thinking of the game. Still a place for doing certain situational things, not every at bat needs to have the goal of doing as much damage as possible, but the vast majority of PAs fit that bill.

Its as if some dont realize that we are where we are because Elias, Sig, and the "stat pack" as someone here used to refer to them are heavily vested in all of this type of info and it has played a big part in the orgs success. To crap on most of this stuff is to crap on the model that has brought this org to heights it hasnt seen in 40 plus years

We need more people like Syd Thrift, who ran the team as if he was still GM of the 1924 Pittsburgh Pirates.

One of those games where its like did Hyde really need to go to 2 of his A guys when Akin allowed the 2 baserunners up 5 and 1 out. Eventually had the 3rd one warming as well in Coulombe. But if it all falls apart on you its a bad loss.

No complaints from me on the BP usage. I thought he gave a game away Saturday by trying to get too much from the starter, basically did the opposite tonight and glad he backed up that improved decision by using who he needed.

Yeah a win is a win. Its fun to get cute at times until you blow games youre supposed to win. No real issues. Though Cano and Kimbrel are both out tomorrow. Kimbrel 100% for sure isnt throwing a 3rd day in a row.

Kimbrel quite impressive again today. I feel like hes more times than not gonna be good but when he blows up it will be a massive blowup.

The hydration station is udderly ridiculous.

Best thing to happen to this team and I'm including Adley and Gunnar.

The moment where MASN puts up an infographic that said Cowser is the first player to hit 4 HR, 4 2B, and 12 RBI in a week since Frank Robinson did it in 1966 was sure impactful.

The next pitch Cowser swung at either a cutter or a splitter for strike three. His fourth K on the night, Golden sombrero complete.

That's baseball in a nutshell.

You're not alone. I'm old school too and some of these new stats seem a little over the top. I had this discussion with a friend and we were discussing where the sweeper came from after 150 yrs of baseball. I guess it all coincides with betting and fantasy baseball. The more stats the better. Follow the money.

IMO, the sweeper is a nastier version of what used to be called a slurve. More like an updating of terms. (It looks like a good curve ball to me.)As far as exit velocity, I can see where it helps with scouting, both at the prospect level and and in game. While I see the value, the reporting of each hitter's exit velocity is good for prop betting on the sport as well. Win/win in the game of baseball right now.

It doesn't look like anyone on the team has a degree in mechanical engineering or would make a good plumber. (Lucky for them they are amongst the best baseball players in the world.) I personally like the one shot beer bong version better.

The "Cole Irvin Isn't That Bad Guy" is back and I think he wasn't that bad? Something to build on.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
