New Orleans’ QB Taysom Hill signed a unique four-year, hybrid-type of contract extension that could be worth anywhere between $40 million and $95 million, depending on the position he plays, and includes $22.5 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.
Taysom Hill’s hybrid deal is unique and unlike other contracts because it pays him a $40 million base salary for the role that he’s currently playing, and up to an additional $55 million if he does become the Saints’ starting QB for the next four seasons.

So they're paying around $10 million a year to a guy who isn't good enough to start at QB and occasionally runs wild cat plays? Yeah that makes sense.

So long Coach Peyton. Been a great run watching you and Brees. But like all things sooner or later they come to an end. Now what direction do we go? $74M over the cap, no QB, no head coach. Yikes.

Wow, had no idea the Saints were that far over the cap. I've never even heard of that. Just quickly summed up the columns from Overthecap...if they cut everyone on the roster (pre-June 1) they'd still only clear $60M. Expect lots of renegotiations and post-June 1 designations.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

They were more than that the beginning of last season.

They have a ton of money in roster bonuses so there's restructuring they can do. For example Lattimore+Hill+Ramczyk gets them $40M. Some other high base salaries can be restructured. Of course that's just kicking the can down the road but that's probably what they gotta do at this point.

The Saints aren't in salary cap hell any more now than they were before.

That is correct. But the issue is does a quality HC candidate want to step into that especially for a team that doesn't have a QB? Now they do still have Kamara and a terrific D.

Are the Eagles going to be the 76er's of football with 1st rd picks in future years . Is it too much to set aside for 3 picks.?

Are the Saints going to get a 1st from someone for Payton? That's a big price.
