Red Sox C Danny Jansen became the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in the same game; in the continuation of a game against Toronto that began on June 26th. To add to the intrigue, Jansen was in the middle of an AB as a Blue Jay when the game was suspended due to weather. He was subsequently traded to Boston last month, and inserted into the continuation of the game today as a defensive replacement at C. Daulton Varsho was inserted as a PH by the Jays to finish the AB Jansen started.

So he was behind the plate for an AB started by him? Baseball is crazy.
Not just that, but he went to bat in the same inning for two different teams. It was the top of the 2nd when he was at the plate for Toronto, and he came up in the bottom of the 2nd for Boston.
Oh, and the most important part of all this.....Boston lost, 4-1.

I am very surprised that this has never happened before. That he was at the place when the game got suspended and then receiving the pitches when it resumed is wild though. Only could be cooler if he was a pitcher back before the DH, he could've gotten himself out!
I would imagine at some point over the past century-plus there may have been a player who was on the roster for both teams in the same game and just never got in to either the beginning or the resumption.
While I'm sure becoming a quirky part of baseball history was at least in the back of mind in contributing to this happening, there was a certain necessity to it as well. Reese McGuire started the game at C for Boston in June, but he was DFA'd last month to make room for Jansen after the trade, so Boston had to make a defensive substitution. And since Wong caught yesterday and this was part of a day/night DH, they probably wanted him to have the few extra hours of rest. Enter Jansen.

I could be wrong but I dont even think he hit that much in Japan. How good he has been as an offensive player is absoutely stunning to me

He also has 90 XBH right now. Has an outside shot to get to 100 XBH in a season which is pretty rare too

Crazy in two years they've lost the NFL and MLB.
There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Their fans didn’t. It’s a shame. But this is the way it works. There’s a bureaucratic process to this stuff, and the city gives zero F’s.Lost the NBA too.
Oakland made it clear that they have no interest in having professional sports teams

It doesn't help that the Raiders and A's are owned by two of the worst owners in pro sports.
And it does sound like Oakland did try in some form to keep the A's.
