Nevin isn't good but he does have a .798 OPS VS LHP. He'd be a better option at DH against LHP than O'Hearn or McCann.

Os finish 23-6 in ST. A few ties as well.

PS.......Cowser finished up ST with an 0-2 day with you guessed it........ 2Ks today.

Am I missing something? Is Hays not a good option for CF if Mullins is down?

Definitely not, he’s barely average in LF. Cowser will back up Mullins.

Nevin can DH vs lefties early and be an easy DFA in a few weeks.

Struck out 17 times in 55 PAs. So again 30ish % in ST which is around what I expect in the reg season.  Hes made the team and I hope they actually give him some consistent ABs somehow. Time for him to sink or swim. WOnt find anything out if hes playing once a week.

Hays '23:

+5 DRS

7.7 UZR / 150

0 0AA
Arm remains excellent. 11th in Fielder Runs
His reaction is graded below average, but his route is above average.

Overall, I'd have him slightly above average.
Certainly not a liability as he was being described going into last year (when his defensive numbers plummeted in the 2nd half of '22 when he was playing hurt).

If Cowser is equal or better, great.
Will be his job soon obviously.

The Sun: Orioles prospect Colton Cowser makes club, Ryan McKenna doesn’t as opening day roster takes shape

So I guess they are comfortable with Mateo in CF if it comes to that.

Cowser shouldn't be rotting on the bench ala Stowers early last season.

Athleticism only going downhill from here. Cowser will be much better out there and has a similar arm.

Yeah, the athleticism will fall off at some point. Probably not all at once this year.

I think it should be easy to find Cowser 3 starts a week filling in at all 3 OF spots. He can earn more if he hits well or if others struggle or get hurt. I think some regular time off for Hays might be a good thing, so maybe LF becomes a bigger time share and Cowser can get 4-5 starts a week.

Cowser has nothing left to do in AAA, but also needs to be playing more than 3x a week.

Honestly, a trade of Hays would probably be my preferred route.

Id rather do what Mack is saying and start by cutting into Hays's time. See how it goes from there before just handing Cowser a job. The other aspect is you want Hays bat vs LHP. You need a RH bat. Im not even sure what Hays splits look like but I want some RH sticks. Hell, the lack of them is why Nevin is opening the year on the 26. So trading Hays is a no go.

Cowser makes sense as the CF that would fill in for Mullins due to injury assuming he can play a competent enough CF. He doesn't make sense as a backup CF though because you'd want someone to replace Mullins against tough lefties and Cowser ain't the guy for that.

Hopefully they get him a fair amount of playing time while everyone is healthy. I'm skeptical though unless it comes at Hays expense.

I think Cowser can get the necessary regular ABs as the 4th OF/backup Cfer. He should get enough starts splitting some time in left with Hays and playing some RF when Santander DHs. Like Mackus stated, I don't think getting him three to four starts a week should present an issue. If and when he breaks out, you can look to move Hays. Let's see if he can seize a role on the team this year.

Signed Tony Kemp to a $1M major league deal, for some reason. Maton DFAd.

Unless they have some trade in the works this makes no sense. They don't need more infield depth.

The least explicable move in recent memory. What purpose does this serve? At least I don't think they care about each million spent anymore, so imagine they'll cut him soon but really can't imagine what he does that we don't already have two guys on the roster who do it better.
