The only problem I see with this scenario is bringing Cowser back up could possibly affect his rookie status and service time. If he did well his first time up and was sent back simply due to a roster crunch, then fine. But why do so when he hasn't demonstrated he belongs in the majors?

Yes, he scuffled during his first call up, but a .316 / .442 / .526 slash line in AAA does in fact demonstrate he belongs in the majors.

The question is roster spot availability.

It sucks, cuz yeah, Adam Frazier should not be playing LF.

Yeah, why have the guy burn up some of his rookie status while He's primarily going to be watching games from the bench? Besides, McKenna is a better fit for the extra outfielder role anyway. He's a better defender and provides speed on the base paths. Not to bash Cowser, but he didn't flash much in the way of tools when he was up earlier in the year. More importantly, when he comes up he needs to play. That's not happening this year.I think Hicks will fill that spot tomorrow.

Saw this from John Heyman.

Multiple players expected to be claimed in next few hours. Angels will lose a few. Giolito, Moore and Lopez seen as very likely to be claimed, Renfroe and Grichuk somewhat likely and Leone possible. Among others, Bader seems likely to be claimed and Clevinger possible.

I will be disappointed if the Orioles sit this out. We can really help our BP with a claim or two.

Maybe even a bat.

What the Angels are doing IMO is wrong.  These players could greatly change a play off series or even the last month of the season.  They are giving them away.

That said, let's go Elias and Angelos.  Strengthen the team.

Yes but I saw that they stand to save $7M in payroll by doing so. Hard to blame them.

They just gave decent prospects away for a fools run at the playoffs.  Now they get sensible.  The Angels are a joke.

The Orioles only have a bite at guys that everyone else (except Braves) pass on.

Only guy that could help that they might have a shot at is Mike Clevinger. But he'll cost about $5.5M for the final month because he gets a $4M buyout even if he declines his half of a mutual option. If they add him, it'll mean Angelos did something positive, so that's about how likely it is.

The O's have 28th priority, though.  You'd have to think other teams would put in claims before it gets to the O's.

Probably not good for the O's...

As the results are revealed, the early talk among other teams is that the contenders at the front of the waiver process were aggressive.

I understand that.  I just hope they at least try.  The chances are better than you might think, because many of the teams out of the race, are going to pass.

We were never getting anyone. Glad to see a *relatively* harmless team like Cleveland got two of them.

The Diamondbacks came up empty on waivers. I’m told they had claims in on four players.

Again, I understand that.  I just wanted them to try.

And IMO, what the Angels have done is having a n effect on teams trying to win.

Guardians got Moore, too.  Bader and Renfroe to the Reds.

Roch tweeted they are adding Cowser and Krehbiel to expanded roster.

He also said they made waiver claims. Didn’t say on who.

The Angels will be the textbook case in the future for marginal teams that somehow think they are still in the playoff hunt. Good test case to demonstrate that a more reasonable look at your team and their chances would be prudent.

The Angels look like total idiots.

1. Gave up prospects (as low as they may be).

2. Ended up releasing what they brought in.

3. Got a big fat zero for Ohtani. Oh wait they get a compensatory pick.    LOL

Just bad management.

I wonder if they suspected he might have a UCL tear.  That's the only reasonable explanation for their deadline actions.
