On the plus side, Fuji is probably unavailable.

So facing a righty but no Cowser. Interesting.

Gausman is a reverse splits guy for his career.

Ok but we are starting  OHearn and Frazier.

But lets pull this string a little deeper.

So you are only going to use Cowser against RHers who are not good against lefties? Is that enough playing time to let him break out of his horrific slump or is he better served to go back to Norfolk and play every day. Same exact argument others are using for not calling up Ortiz.

Cowser didnt start the last game in NY. I think hes gonna get the sparringly played treatment for awhile now. Like Stowers to start the year. If he makes something out of it he will get more. Maybe Im wrong. Maybe they will still play him agaimst most righties but he didnt Sun and he didnt today. Thats 2 of the last 3 weve faced.

They believe you can better without playing in games, I’m sure they’re working on things with him.

I'm calling the shutout tonight and a PH HR by Cowser to win it 1-0.

Giolito is 0-2 in his first couple starts with Angels and has given up 12 runs over 9 innings.  Cease got bombed for 7 last night.

Flaherty pitching a shutout seems like the most "2023 Orioles" thing that can happen.

I tend to agree with that Bob. But my question remains. Does that not also apply to Ortiz? The reason most say to not call him up is he needs to play everyday and not sit on the bench.

This would hold more weight if it weren't Mullins & Hicks hurt, but rather, Gunnar & Mateo.

At this point as we're heading down the stretch in a playoff chase I have no problem him only starting against lefties and the occasional righty for the rest of the season. He's hitting .350 with a .975 OPS in AAA with better than defense than Mateo has shown this season. Its time.

It’s harder if Mateo is the best glove in the league, but if he’s a 2 OAA guy as he’s been this year it should be an easy decision.

Not just a 2 OAA guy but a guy who's missed some big plays in some big moments.  He may be an elite defender again but he hasn't been this year.

I think they're trying to nurse him through to 9/1 where they can hide him on the bench more easily.  He's still a great weapon as a pinch runner with how many close games this team plays.  And the beauty of using him in that way is that you're not relying on him to get on base to use that speed.

You can only add one pitcher and one position player now.  28 max, not 40.  If the extra position player is a catcher, then it doesn't give any more leeway for carrying Mateo.

I'm pretty confident the extra position player will be Kjerstad.

That splitter is NASTY from Gausman. Happy he’s had a solid career after Baltimore. Always liked him.
