No doubt. If we want to continue with a 6 man rotation I would put Irvin back in there and Jack can head to the pen

Hasn't exactly sunk the season but I think it'd be fair to say we're now 0-for-2 on trading for veteran starting pitchers so far

Can't hurt to give him a go in the pen. Lord knows our pen is pretty weak.

He cant just be a long man or low lev guy. Maybe he could eat innings tonight if Gibson is bad but in general he needs to be tried out in med- higher lev spots
Agree. Everybody talks about how much better our pen would be if Bautista could come back. And for sure that would be awesome. But the reality is that its still a pretty weak pen even with Felix cause really you only have solid faith in Felix and Cano.
Coulombe, Webb, Hall, Fuji, Perez and Baumann are all iffy. And there isn't any help down on the farm either. Akin, Wells, Baker.....LOL
The one potential improvement is if someone like Flaherty could actually step up as a solid RP.

Zero expectations of him being useful in the pen but good to use the remainder of the regular season to find out.

I thought this was interesting....
But those expectations were seemingly derailed during the COVID season of 2020. Early in the 60-game season, while the Cardinals were quarantined because of an outbreak, Flaherty got attention for throwing into a mattress in his room during that time. No one will ever know for sure whether Flaherty's subsequent shoulder trouble was related to the unusual training situation
Also I know it's only a 1 year deal, but 14 million for him!? Hard to see the Orioles acquiring anyone better if that's what a bottom of the barrel guy gets.

1/$14M from Detroit.
Wow 14 M. If Flaherty is getting that much, I think it seems unlikely the Orioles sign anyone that slots near the top of the rotation.

Gibson got 1/13M + a team option. He got 10M from the O's and didn't exactly show he needed a big raise, other than staying healthy. Lance Lynn got 11M and had almost a 6 ERA last year. That just seems like the price for this kind of guy, being a back end starter is a pretty good gig.
