Henderson is struggling but I'd prefer he stay up here with the Orioles. He'll eventually shake out of it and grow as a hitter. Facing AAA pitchers isn't going to do much in the way of long term progress.

Its not about the results at AAAgood or bad. Let him focus on a new approach. Cant afford to figure things out up here
That's what the Orioles hitting coaches are for. He's still seeing the ball well, still drawing walks but is having a tough time adjusting to what major league pitchers are doing to him within the strike zone. He'll figure it out and so far, it hasn't hurt the team.

OPENING STATEMENTS: With last night's win, Baltimore improved to 10-0 in series openers to begin the 2023 campaign, the only team to have won all of their series openers this season...The streak of 10 consecutive series-opening victories to begin a season is the longest in club history (since 1954) and the longest by any MLB team since the 1973 San Francisco Giants won their first 11 series openers, per the Elias Sports Bureau...It is tied with the 1963 Orioles - who also won 10 straight from July 23 to August 23 - for the fourth-longest streak at any point in a season in O's history... The club record is 11 straight series-opening wins, done three times: May 16 to June 18, 1980; May 23 to June 20, 1978; and August 30 to September 30, 1974.
WHAT'S TRENDING: The O's have won 12 of their last 14 games, 14 of their last 17, and 16 of their last 20...The 20-9 record is tied for the second-best start to begin a season in team history, also done in 1969, 1997, and 2005, and trailing only the 21-8 start in 1970 (see box at right)...With a win tonight, the O's would tie the 1997 team (21-9) for the second-best record through the first 30 games of a season in club history, behind only the 1970 squad (22-8).
Gibson
QUICK HITS: Scheduled to make his seventh start of season, fifth on the road, and first against the Royals tonight...Became the first O's pitcher in club history (since 1954) to start and win each of his three first appearances with the team... Has started a season 4-0 for the second time in his career, joining a 6-0 start with Texas in 2021; is the fifth Oriole starting pitcher since 2004 to begin a year 4-0, joining John Means (4-0 in 2021), Bud Norris (4-0 in 2013), Wei-Yin Chen (4-0 in 2012), and Erik Bedard (4-0 in 2006)...In 273 career appearances (267 GS), Gibson owns a 93-91 record with a 4.50 ERA (770 ER/1538.1 IP)...The O's signed Gibson to a one-year contract on December 5, 2022...He has also spent time with the Twins, Phillies, and Rangers across 10 Major League seasons.
LAST TIME OUT: Did not factor in the decision on April 27 at Detroit...Allowed three runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings, his shortest start of the season...Threw 102 pitches, a season-high, and 64 strikes.
CAREER AGAINST THE ROYALS: Making his 27th career appearance (25th start) and first start this season against the Royals...Owns a 10-5 record with a 3.79 ERA (60 ER/142.1 IP) in his first 26 career appearances against Kansas City...His 11 career quality starts against the Royals and Tigers are tied for his second- most against any opponent, trailing only Chicago-AL (12).

Henderson
I'm just going to post this again
ab 76 g 16 h 14 hr 2 rbi 4 sb 1 avg .184 obs.361 ops.664
Gunnar Henderson
ab 78 h 14 hr 2 rbi 9 avg 169 obs 198 ops325
Cal Ripken Jr 1981
Ripken went on to win Rookie of the Year
I'm not saying Gunnar is destined to be as good as Cal but I compare the two to remind people that even Hall of Fame players sometimes got off to lousy starts at the plate during their rookie year.
I think his bat is going to be ok and I was encouraged by the defensive play he made last night

Nobody is giving up on Henderson. He needs to work on things. Real things. Its not bad luck. Its not a bad run. Its not solely about confidence or "needing some to drop in". He needs to go down and work on a better approach. Its not easy to figure things out and be comfortable when youre just trying to keep your head above water in the show. Go down for a few weeks. Work on things. Hard reset come June.Henderson

The only way I send him down is if it seems his confidence has taken a serious hit or if he's hurting the team. He's obviously struggling, but he is carrying himself well on the field. Of course, the Orioles are playing well.

Weaver sent Ripken out there every day.
I haven't seen anything to indicate that his bat is costing us games. I'm willing to give him a little more time.

Is it me or has this team removed it's head from it's collective ass when it comes to defense?
Maybe they started taking shagging flies and taking infield practice or something

Unfreakingbelievable
In no world should O'Hearn or Frazier be getting ABs over Henderson.
Don't know. Maybe there's something about the way Grienke pitches that leads the coaching staff to believe Gunnar won't have success? Or maybe he's banged up? Hard to say.

I think Hyde is just sitting him to clear his head and hopefully, recharge his battery.

Then he should have sat him last night and played him tonight.

If had gone 3-5 last night, trust me, he would have been in the lineup tonight.

He was on base three times last night and scored a run. Hard to argue with those results
