It's a strange dynamic.
I never imagined that baseball would embrace gambling so fervently.
Save for horse racing, I have never been much of a gambler. I agree with you that the whitewashing and the general dismissal of gambling addiction is troubling.
But hey, ir's all about the $.
It's not just baseball too. It's in the pre-game NFL talk shows, NBA, hell, NCAA tournament. The Athletic also is littered with something like 10-15% (estimated) articles touching on prop bets, MVP odds, etc.

Ok, apples to oranges though. To a degree sure. But MLB is taking part in whitewashing the dangers of gambling by mainlining it into the consciousness of the broadcast. It's dangerous sh#t.
They are only truly comparable in that they both deal with gambling. There isn't any logic imo in saying they can't do this if they want to continue their ban against Rose or Shoeless Joe.

Good points all.
I subscribe to the Athletic and I just scroll through those articles, but there are a lot of them.

Huge divide between those two actions.
I say that as someone who'd be good with Rose in the HOF.
If there was any evidence at all that Rose bet against his own team, I'd fully agree on that huge divide concept. Since he apparently did not, I understand your point, but cannot fully accept it.

Jackson was banned 100 years ago and Rose 30 some yeaes ago. Rose paid the price that was set up by Jackson and his teammates. You'll never see any current players participating in the commercials though. That's a line they can't cross.
As an older baseball fan, it seems strange.

Orioles up 3-0. Feels like we should be working these guys over more, but I guess they're out there trying too.
Let's go.

Baker backward-struts off the mound on that pitch. I like this kid.

While betting against your team is the worst sin, selectively betting on your team while being connected to the mafia is still a substantial sports sin.

He did admit that he bet for his own team which in of itself had to affect how he managed the Reds. It was not only incredibly stupid on his part but inherently sacrilegious within the sport. Then he compounded the situation by being a pathological liar about it. He got what he deserved and will be dead and gone before there's any chance he gets into HOF.

I think I'm a lot less pro-Rose than against professional sports getting in bed with gambling sites and locations. He was wrong, no argument. That doesn't make the seeming hypocrisy any more palatable.
