College Basketball 2023-24 General Talk (UCONN Wins)

I said it after the first weekend. UConn is head and shoulders above. It would take them playing at less than 85% of their max and the opponent playing really well. Purdue could be their toughest test but they also could get rolled by double digits like everyone else.

Actually Batkley said Bama shot 70+% but he may have meant that high from 3 as I believe they were 8-11 in the first half. No matter what they were from the field total they still played a solid offensive 1st half and were down 4.

Consider that Bama shot over 70% in the first half and still trailed by 4. Like I know they dont play D but it just shows how consistently good you have to be on both ends to have a chance against UConn.

The 2nd half started as a tale of spurts, and it wound up 56-56 around 12 minutes remaining.
UConn outscored Alabama 30-16 from there on.

Purdue certainly cant play as poorly as they did today and have any chance.
I think Alabama would've beaten Purdue handily tonight.

Curious to see if Edey can play all 40 minutes like he did v NC State.
What sucks is that Shead got hurt early in the first half v Duke. That team would've pushed Purdue.
Last 3 games he's played 38, 39, 40.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Right. Grambling, Utah State and NC State. Purdue is 244th in offensive tempo. That and the fact Edey avoids foul trouble is why he’s on the court so much.
Whether or not UConn can draw Edey into foul trouble is anybody’s guess, but IMO UConn will run the floor a lot more expeditiously than any team Purdue’s played this year.

No, that would be Gonzaga, Tenn, NCST.
Purdue is 211th in Adjusted Tempo.
UConn is 328th.
UConn is 1st in Adjusted Offense, 4th in Adjusted Defense.
Purdue is 3rd in Adjusted Offense, 12th in Adjusted Defense.
Purdue's Strength of Schedule 2nd.
UConn's SOS 20th.
Purdue beat Tennessee twice this year.
Purdue beat Gonzaga twice this year.
Purdue beat Marquette.
Purdue beat Alabama.
Purdue also beat Arizona. Arizona was 16th overall in Adjusted Tempo, 11th in Adjusted Offense.
Don't think Purdue is going to be surprised by UConn's ability to move.
Do expect UConn to win.

Looks like I skipped a weekend. Like you just did. If you’re going to correct me, at least be honest about it.
Not sure what point you’re making about Purdue and UConn and adjusted tempo, except to say that anybody who has watched these two teams play understands UConn plays a much faster, frenetic brand of ball, and yet their A:T ratio is still elite.
As for Edey - if you can avoid fouling him he will need rest. I expect a high # of PNRs on offense, and since he camps down underneath and likes that short hook, make him setup further from the basket (I’m talking Clingan, not Johnson) and make him work more.
UConn has better depth and a size advantage outside of the 5.

Be honest about what? What are you talking about?
I said their last 3 games, he played 38, 39, 40 minutes.
And you said it was against Grambling, Utah St, and NCST... and I correctly said no, the last 3 was Gonzaga, Tenn, and NCST.
UConn should win.
It's not going to be because Purdue isn't used to playing at pace.

Lots of smoke surrounding the rumors that John Calipari is headed to Arkansas. Would be a hell of a lifeline thrown to the Kentucky program by the Razorbacks.

If Purdue wins, I win my bracket pool.
I have both teams in the championship.

Seth Davis seems to think that Nate Oats and Bruce Pearl have buyouts that would be too expensive for Kentucky, which I'm not sure I completely agree with. But he believes Scott Drew is the most likely candidate, provided that UConn keeps Dan Hurley away from Lexington.
