They showed a list of pitchers who've started the season with 0 ER and 0 BB with at least 14-15 IP. Pretty impressive list. Rivera, Eckersley, Hoffman, etc on it. And Cano doesn't have much further to go to make it to the top spot.

So you are saying we have a future hall of fame closer on our hands!?!

I am not sure I have ever seen a run like this from a player who by any definition was a spare part with Minnesota.  He was bad in 18 innings in the majors last year, and decent in AAA.

He has been nothing short of spectacular this year.

So who are they trading him to in about 2 months, and what will the excuse be? Easily replaceable, or unlikely to sustain?

Not 20 games above .500 -- can't make the playoffs.  Ship 'em out!

"I think it's really hard to sit there and chart a course and say, 'We're likely to win the World Series'."  - That would be the quote. Have to stay on the slight upward arc. Keyword, slight.

The fact that he's 29 does make me curious how differently they'd treat him for moving him compared to being a rookie at 24/25

He's free for the next two years after this season, he's not going anywhere.

I don't know about free, but Lopez was under team control for two more years as well.

Maybe it'll be Bautista who is traded. "We have Cano guys"

Lopez makes 3.5M this year and that will go up next year. Cano makes 750k the next 3 years. Unfortunately that's a big deal to this team.

That's one reason I'm kinda shocked they kept Santander (7.4M)

I'm ok with a little hyperbole to bring home a truth, but the Orioles aren't trading Cano ('anytime soon').

The first comment, ok, haha.  The continued discussion of it as if there's merit.  Come on.

Cano makes the ML min the next 2 years.  He won't make that much in year 4.  He's having an All-Time epic run.  Since nobody has done it ever before over an extended time, I'm comfortable saying he won't either.  If he does, then a 28 year old (now 29) that was basically not very good in ML opportunity will have transformed (almost overnight) into the best pitcher ever.  Ever.

There are questions about what this team will do.  Some people might say trade Mullins and many have wanted to trade Hays and Santander.  There are a lot of places to question the Orioles approach in these matters....Cano isn't one of them.

That Cano was acquired in the Lopez trade will probably be Exhibit A for John Angelos next time he's in front of a microphone and wants to convince everyone that having a team where everyone makes the ML minimum is a good thing.

So Cano didn't have an ERA+ before he gave up a run (essentially 'infinity')

...but now that he's given up a run, his current ERA + is 1136.

In 2016, Zach Britton had the best ERA+ ever for a RP (by a lot as far as I can tell) and his was 806.

4.50 ERA, allowing an OPS of .949 across last five appearances, so if you were wondering when the regression would hit, there it is lol

Itll be interesting to see what happens with him. Feels like lefties in particular are smoking the ball off him. The stuff is good but Id be interested to know if the vertical break is as nasty as it was earlier in the year.

Last 7.1 innings 12 hits allowed. Going on memory here numerous outs were hit hard too. Now, the good news is he has still only walked 1 in that span. Not walking guys at all. Hes also keeping the balls down. Even the balls smoked seem to be hard low line drives or ground balls. So interesting to see where we go from here.

He's still a win even if he's only in the mix with Baker, Baumann, etc as sometimes reliable and sometimes not.  They're at least solid relievers who mostly can be counted on to do their job but not consistently lights out.  But the step backwards by Perez and Tate out of that group of really dominant relievers from last season will be felt much more painfully if Cano can't continue to fill that gap.

Only Bautista as dominant on the back end isn't enough given how unreliable the SP can be.  RP should be a priority at the deadline anyways, but especially so if we get to July without feeling that any of Cano, Perez, Tate, etc are guys we would be surprised to see not have it any time we call on them.
