And Andy Serkis. No idea who the others are.

Forgot about him. I think I just recognized the name and assumed he was in one of the prequals as the motion-capture Yoda or something.

Yeah they're probably having him do mocap, but he is the best at it. He's had some normal roles here and there though, so it is a possibility.

Oscar Issac is a solid choice. Very likable presence on screen, even when he's playing a-holes.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

The cast has been announced.

Not much to generate excitement but cool nonetheless.

Sounds good. Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver are great and I enjoyed Gleeson in 'About Time'.

Weren't the original 3 relatively unknown at the time?  My understanding was that they brought Alec Guinness on board to bring the acting clout.  Perhaps this is an homage of sorts.  In any case, these guys can't be worse than Hayden Christensen.

I'm more disappointed that they're essentially resetting the EU.

Lucas isn't doing the casting, thank god, so I'm sure it'll be better this time around. And one thing that Abrams is great at is casting his shows and movies.

Not sure if the new trilogy is going to completely ignore the EU but you can understand why they feel like they have to go in a different direction.

And it's Abrams, I am sure he's going to at least deliver some Easter eggs for EU fans.

They said the other day that they're essentially ignoring the EU, hence the reset button comment. The current novels will be branded as 'legacy' or something like that.

Max Von Sydow is the business, Serkis is Mr. Motion capture, and I really liked Isaac in Inside Llewyn Davis. I'm on board.

Adam Driver was pretty good in his brief Llewyn Davis appearance and was the best part of Girls that I saw too.

I believe so. Never got into it myself. I'm glad they're ignoring it. Create something original. Those stories are still out there.

Yes the novels that took place after Jedi. A lot of that was Jacen Solo becoming the ext Sith Lord. The movies are canon and the books are not. They want the next 3 movies to be original so nobody knows what is coming. I get it.

That didn't happen for quite some time.  Regardless, they would have been well served doing the Heir to the Empire Trilogy as episodes 7-9, but that would have required Luke, Han, and Leia to be recast.

Before, after and during the period from the films. There's all kinds of stuff out there like that.

I've heard someone even wrote a novel about the cantina band from Episode IV.

I wouldn't be surprised, there's a lot of stuff out there.  I've mostly focused on the post ROTJ stuff, but I know there's quite a bit concerning The Clone Wars and what let to Sidious' rise to power.

Is it mean to hope they CGI or makeup Carrie Fisher in a big way?  She aged terribly, although I'm guessing the drugs were a major contributor.

Not jazzed about the new SW flick yet. The 3 prequels were ALL sub-par compared to 4-6.

Above all...please make sure Jar-Jar Binks gets NO screen time.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in one as essentially an Easter egg. Maybe show him as an old...Gungan, I guess...sitting outside the new Jedi Temple, talking to kids about everything he saw living through the events of the Clone Wars and Rebellion.
