Of course you don’t. RBs are replaceable, stat producing robots to most people here.
I think the big deal is an owner actually chiming in like an idiot.
Unprompted, Irsay said RBs need to “pipe-down”, like an old man yelling at clouds. He’s not even entertaining the discussion of a new contract for his best player and one of the best in the league.
We know what the RB market is. For an owner to actually come out and say about guys like his best player, to pipe-down, that’s just shameful.
I like RBs better than most. I'm not afraid or unwilling to take a RB in the 1st (I'd be way more willing to take a RB in the 1st, vs. giving a RB a 2nd contract).... but he has a contract.
Play on the contract, or don't.
If the Union wants to try and change the system, they have that right.
Right now, the teams get the benefit of the initial rookie deals, and their teams are partly built knowing they have players / production at certain costs.
Do I think Taylor can rebound this year, and having another great year like '21? Sure.
Do I know Taylor is coming of a year where he played just 11 games? Yep.
Taylor knows his shelf life is limited, and he's trying to maximize his career earnings.
Get paid more this year, get some more guaranteed money.
Don't blame him for that.
Obviously also know that part of why he's feeling that, is because he played just 11 games last year, and realizes how quickly things can change.
But that's not exactly Irsay's problem either.
Irsay has him under contract, and he's not obligated to give him more.
And Taylor's not obligated to play... he can stay home.
Basically every player in the NFL is completely replaceable. Taylor certainly is.
