Is this a precursor for a trade of Mateo or Urias?

Print the WS tickets baby.
Did you just come up with this? Very clever

Yuck.
My reaction based on the idea that I want 2nd handed to Westburg, and at $8M, I'm concerned they'll actually want to give Frazier some regular time.

Glad they're spending some money, but I don't really get this.
OPS+ was 80 last year. Quite good in 2021 and about average most of the time before that. Guess they think he's due for a bounce back.

You can’t even really say glad they’re spending money when it’s $8M. That’s league minimum these days if you’re not in arbitration. Or close to it.
I think the league minimum was the $700,000 they paid Odor last year....which in relative terms makes $8M for Frazier a bit baffling. Is he that much better?

Yeah I know it’s not actually league minimum, but you rarely see anyone signing below that.I think the league minimum was the $700,000 they paid Odor last year....which in relative terms makes $8M for Frazier a bit baffling. Is he that much better?
Frazier ensures we aren’t stealing from 2024-2027 though, so check there Mike. Good job.

I can't wrap my head around giving him $8M.
I also can't wrap my head around why you would target him.
Looks like the glove is decent, but who is he replacing?
He has some versatility.
His splits aren't good. Odor could play 2nd, and had more pop.
Jordan Westburg had 362 ab's at Norfolk in '22.
There's no reason to send him back for further refinement.
Hell, even if you want Westburg to get more time at AAA.... Henderson 3rd, Mateo SS, Urias 2nd.
Why do you need Fraizer?

They could want that extra year for Westburg. They’ll manufacture a reason why he doesn’t break camp. Vavra must smell really bad or something too.

Sure seems like this could be a prelude to a Mateo trade, but who knows.

Urias or Mateo are getting traded soon it seems.

Okay, but you trade Mateo... you've got Henderson available in-house for SS, Urias at 3rd, and Westburg for 2nd.
Why do you need Frazier and at that price?

Eh. The Brett Phillips trade last season was supposed to be a prelude to some other deadline deal, and instead it was merely a chance for us all to delight in his .353 OPS while Kyle Stowers sat in Norfolk.

Here I am, on edge, and you go and bring up Brett Phillips?
