It is helping them. It's giving them the guy that rebuilt the Orioles pitching in the minors. Why do we want to let that go to a division rival? I understand the whole code thing of letting him interview for a PC position, but they could have at least denied permission to the Sox and let him go to a team outside the division.

Then you're denying him the opportunity for advancement. Remember, he was fired in Milwaukee, spent a year out of baseball and the best offer he had last offseason was as the Orioles minor-league coordinator. He's still a good coach, but he's past the days of choosing any job he wants. It is helping them. It's giving them the guy that rebuilt the Orioles pitching in the minors. Why do we want to let that go to a division rival? I understand the whole code thing of letting him interview for a PC position, but they could have at least denied permission to the Sox.
Denying him an opportunity simply because the team in question is a division rival would be a poor reflection on the organization, and likely would lower the chances of getting a similar talent in the future.

Once again, you prove that you just don't understand how baseball works.Orioles gave the Sux permission to interview him for pitching coach.

Either change the subject line or cancel this thread unless there is some announcement that Peterson is leaving the O's. You hitting your personal panic button is no reason to make false claims in the thread topic name.

I know Gary Armida(if you remember, he wrote some of the good Peterson articles, knows him well) believes RP wants to be in he majors BUT that he also really enjoys the job he has with the Os.
If it were me, would rather have the job RP had instead of a ML pitching coach but that's just me.
The Orioles need to spend some money here. Pony up ML pitching coach money...or even more. The job RP had with us is more important than a ML PC, so pay up and keep him.

Most of the time, the contracts end after the WS or shortly after.Techinically, Peterson isn't even under contract to the O's for 2013, is he? When does his 2012 contrac run out, 12/31? I mean, denying permission would have been a pretty tacky move.

And why did you feel the need to name the freakin' thread "Say bye to Rick Peterson" when he's only interviewing?

I'd love for the O's to look at Tampa for pitching coaches / pitching coordinators.

I really wouldn't be all that upset to see him go...

It's not that Peterson can't be replaced but I think it would be a loss. Seems like he made some important contributions in a short time. I think it would be a loss. Not sure if I would be upset but definately disappointed if he left.

My only concern is that he was the one who implemented the biomechanical processes we have in place and they seem to have worked on with the pitchers he had the time to go through the process with. Is there anyone else out there as refined in that area as he is?

He isn't definitely gone.
I agree, but only because the Red Sox are not a smartly run organization (right now).

I wonder what his bio-mechanical analysis has to say about chicken 'n beer in the clubhouse for it's pitchers?

What better way to ensure he won't come back then to not let him interview right now?
Its a good faith gesture by the Os. He isn't under contract for next year either way right now...And I can guarantee you he won't stay if you deny him an interview that he will be able to get on his own within a few weeks or so anyway.

It is the right and professional thing to do.
A job in the majors trumps a job at the minor league level.

It is the kind of reactionary thread that does not usually appear here. Peterson would be a loss but hopefully the organization is in a different spot now and suitable replacements can be found. They had to let him interview. This is a silly thread.
