As Jim Palmer said, the blueprint to beating the Astro's has been identified. Shut them out and you win. Pretty simple. Go Orioles, 4 more to 82.

Not looking forward to Hyde's idea of a "lefty-killer" lineup.

I think that is an organization idea, and IMO it is one with merit. The Tall wall has killed right handed power at CY.

I think it makes sense over the long course of the season to time off-days for your stars with opposing pitchers that aren't good matchups for them. I wouldn't go "Sunday lineup" like we sometimes see where 3+ starters are getting the day off simultaneously, but if I plan to give Mullins 2 games off a month, I'd try for those to be against LHP if I can.
I don't think it makes sense to bench someone like Mullins in close to must-win games like we've been playing recently just because its a lefty on the mound. For him specifically, he brings more to the table than just his bat. And secondly, while his numbers this year are awful, he hit them very well last year. I'd rely on th larger sample unless I had reason to think the more recent albeit smaller sample is more telling. I don't think we have that with Mullins. I'm sure this front office has a running tally of the splits for whatever sample size they think is most relevant, so maybe we've reached that with Mullins. But I'm not yet convinced he's a disaster against LHP to the point where McKenna or Hays or Aguilar are better options (the latter two coming with defensive questions).

Well this is now 2 in a row that Mullins is starting vs lefties. Ive never thought it was a long term plan to platoon. Just trying to put the best lineup out there. McKenna was at one time lik e.930 OPS vs lefties. so I get it

I have no idea if you should care more about your guy or their guy when looking at such match ups.

I do think that this organization is so analytically driven now that it's gonna take some time for us old timers to get used to it. They have shown that they don't deviate from the numbers much despite what the eye test might say.

Someone called him a lefty earlier. My gut said he was a righty. Since thats the case Id def be playing Stowers. F the reverse splits. Especially with the wallUrquidy is a reverse splits righty, just so we’re clear.

That was me. My bad. I think I threw the whole thread off. I'm getting old and my memory ain't what it used to be.

You got me, for sure.
In your defense, the name Urquidy sure sounds like it should be left-handed.

My fault. We're sitting here justifying why Mullins is playing tonight.

I'd still prefer Stowers in right, Santander to DH, and Aguilar on the bench.

Interesting top of the first.
Altuve smacks it into the corner for an easy double but also is easily thrown out trying to make in into a triple.
Second hitter lined it hard but right at Henderson.
#3 walked
#4 hit it long in the right center gap but Mullins was there.
Could have been ugly but on the box score looks great.
