The good thing is the guys that are most likely to be here part of the core for the next few years minimum have all showed up during this push over the last 2 months and in Sept. Rutsch, Gunnar, and Ced. Mateo and Santander both had good Aug but scuffling in Sept. THey are the next two who are most likely part of a core year for a few years. Figure out 2b, figure out at least 1 corner OF spot. THings look a lot better if Mountcastle is hitting 7th in the lineup. Or move on from Mountcastle and have Hays 7th or 8th in the lineup regularly. However you want to do it

Agreed that the future looks bright with Rutschman and Henderson being the two young and super talented studs to lead our offense and defense.  Hopefully Grayson Rodriguez becomes that for the staff. Regarding Hays I'm so ready to move on from him.

I can't put all of this on Hyde. He probably shouldn't have let Lyles pitch to Springer, particularly because he was leaving everything up in the strike zone, but the flip side is Toronto was essentially pitching a bullpen game after having played five games in four days and our offense couldn't take advantage.

I don't know what influenced Hyde's decision in that instance, but I do think he still looks at Lyles as his "innings eater." The truth is, Lyles is a fourth on fifth starter at best on a good team and you're rolling the dice with him in situations such as tonight's.

Agree but last night was not a situation where we should have cared a twit about eating innings. The bullpen had 2 days rest and we were in a wild card chase. To let Lyles continue to pitch there is one of the worst decisions he's made of late (and he's made plenty of questionable ones).

All that Hyde for Manager of the year talk has been halted pretty quickly the last week.

Don't think so at all. He'd be a guarantee if they made the playoffs, but he's still a leading candidate if they merely finish 500. Servais maybe the winner, since the M's will likely make a wild card. But they headed into the season trying, so not quite as low expectations.

Manager of the Year awards are not about particular good or bad decisions. It's an overall award. And mostly related to expectations.

I disagree.  This team was supposed to lose 100-105 games.IMO, he will not get it, but should.

They do lose 90-100 games if not for a great two months. It’s not the Manger of the 2 months in Summer Award.

Are those great two Months not part of the Year?

Also...you didn't do the math on this, did you? Because only one month this season did they play on a 90-100 loss pace.

Pace by month:

April: 54-108
May: 76-86
June: 87-75
July: 104-58
August: 102-60
Sept: 81-81

The three runs that could be pinned on Hyde today won't matter if the offense can't score.

86 runs in 26 games if I counted right (incl 2 today) since the big game against Boston.

There is no chance in hell Hyde should be MOY, now that they aren’t making the playoffs. No, I didn’t do the math. But it’s quite clear they were on pace to be same old Orioles for the first part of season. And when this month is wrapped up, the same.

There was a contingent here of people who thought that every single year Buck should have been MOY because “look what’s he’s working with”. They were supposed to win 74 games and they won 89. Oooooooo. Yeah he deserved it when he got it, maybe deserved a second one. But not all the time. That contingent is creeping back in.

Frankly, if the O’s are wanting to take the next step, this should be Hyde’s last season. We’ve seen him manage in a playoff race, and he isn’t made for it.

April was also a short month because of the lockout. He’ll be a finalist at least.

Using that logic.  They win 100 if not for the bad months.
