Outside of the first inning I thought most of his pitches were competitive.

He had just 10% soft contact yesterday, and his fastball pitch value / 100 was -2.74 (Lyles is -0.38, Verlander is +1.73). His average FB velo was 95.7. All incredibly SSS, and I agree with Mike B in that I don’t think we saw his real fastball yesterday. But I’d disagree that most of his pitches were competitive, and with how straight that fastball is, he’s going to need more than 95.7 IMO.

Clearly nervous. He flashed in the 2nd against Tampa’s 6-8 hitters though.

He clearly wasn’t ready IMO. Hyde said it was to give him a taste of what it’s like up here before coming back up later in the pen. They like to out smart themselves IMO.

I think he had an adrenaline dump before the game even started, definitely not his normal fastball. Maybe I should say his pitches other than the fastball were competitive. Soft contact got him early, Santander defense didn’t help later.
