They can't play man every play, can they?

No you can't, but you can dial up a better plan for a guy who ended up breaking the Rams single season reception yardage record. Some things aren't rocket science. Make someone else beat you.

I’m surprised in 17 weeks that no one has dialed up a better plan.

Don't get me started on the coaching because Mackus will chime in to defend them

Here's something for you.  By the end of next weekend, both Baltimore and Pittsburgh will likely be eliminated from the playoffs once the Jaguars finish their obligation of showing up while thinking about what bar in the keys they will be at that night.  That will mark the first time in AFC North history that one of either of the two teams has not made the playoffs.

You have to go all the way back to 1999 when it was the old AFC Central to find a time when either Baltimore or Pittsburgh was not in the playoffs.  That year Jacksonville won the division and Tennessee was a wild card.  That's a pretty impressive streak by both teams.  I can't think of any other two teams in a division that might have put that kind of streak together.

The game next week will likely mean nothing, but it will probably be the first time in over two decades that it has been that way for both teams.

The best move of the day was the Rams calling timeout at the end of half when we were moving the ball. They called one on 2nd and 1 and then again on 1st and 10. It was if they were daring us to throw the ball because they knew we would turn it over and we did just that. They were playing chess while we were playing checkers. Even though we got a field goal after they scored a td it felt like that move put them right back into the game.

I think he was talking about Kupp and opposing defenses.

Which goes to coaching. You can't let the oppostion's best receiver run free. Martindale did nothing to counter that.

I mean the entire NFL must just be a bunch of idiots. Obviously all any of them needed to do to stop the guy with 1800 yards is develop a plan.

Belichick. Whoever wins the Super Bowl this year. Reid. Who else has more? Not Tomlin. Not Arians. Not McVay. LaFleur maybe?

Obviously Belichick. Reid likely too. But I think Harbs is right there with them essentially. In a tier of super secure. Harbaugh has earned a lot of leeway and hes just deeply engrained in the culture of this organization now.

He should have the job security, and be the HC like he was before he won the ring. IMO, he has too much influence. You see it in some of the guys they take with connections to his brother, and in other areas. Love me some Harbaugh though, and we're lucky to have him.

Yeah... 1st and 10, Rams called TOs on the prior two plays and they only had one left. 1:42 left in the half. Ravens had all three timeouts remaining. You're up 10-0 with the ball, gained like 8 and 5 yards on the ground the two plays prior. Run some clock. Make them burn their TOs. With three TOs the Ravens had PLENTY of flexibility to run half a dozen plays at least before the half ended. Exhaust your opponent's ability to score in the process. Take that 10 point lead to halftime above all else, and maybe take a big shot in the final minute. Maybe go in up 13, but no less than 10. They could have at worst given the Rams back the ball at their 20 or less, with no TOs left and under 20-25 seconds.

Again, in a game that they lost by 1 point... their decision making there contributed to 7 on the board for the Rams that probably could have been avoided with some ball security.

I have not read the thread, but I think we have a damn good coach in Harbaugh.  His sayings and gruffness at times, is trying but most coaches have that.

The only issue, I had yesterday, was them letting the clock run down when we were inside the 5.  I am sure someone (coach) besides the QB is assigned to watch the clock.  Someone should have yelled for a TO.

IMO, Harbs is one of the top coaches in the game.

Harbaugh blaming Huntley and the center in his post game for the delay of game, and not taking any responsibility for it himself, was NOT a good look. And sort of surprising considering he really never throws players under the bus.

The fact that Harbaugh almost led them to the playoffs with a roster destroyed by injuries pretty much makes his job security for 2022 bullet proof. Hell, Bisciotti might even give him a raise.

It's not a good look.

He should have called a timeout.

You know, help your players out

Also been forgetting it, but Colon was starting, in an emergency basically, for Bozeman. So you have an inexperienced QB and an inexperienced C, 3rd and goal from the 4 with your playoff hopes looking INFINITELY BETTER if you score a TD... and Harbs stands there passively watching as they take a delay of game. Then makes a point to criticize said QB/C combo in the post game (he wasn't responding directly to a question about that play).

Also remembered... 2011 AFC title game, Cundiff runs on to the field late for the tying FG attempt, he ran straight to the spot and got there at 10 seconds remaining on the play clock. Took his steps back and lined up as the clock hit 5 seconds. Took one glance at the goal posts, and they snapped the ball at 1 second left. We know the rest. He didn't do any walkthrough / warmup practice rep.

Another situation where they're in a CRITICAL do or die type spot. FG sends the AFC title game to Overtime. Ravens have a timeout left in their pocket. The kicker responsible for said FG attempt is running on the field late. Maybe a scenario where the HC should say "Woah, wait a minute, this play is our season and too important to risk rushing through".

Should FG kickers make that anyway? Sure. But they're also creatures of habit, routine, precise steps, same thing every time, etc.

Eating your last TO and letting the K try to rush on and rush through the attempt... in a game with a Superbowl trip up for grabs... He was a spectator and not an active asset.

We were so damn close. We had 3 or 4 chances to make a play and we failed each time. What a season.

Yep, I think we emptied the tank, this season trying to overcome all the injuries, Covid etc.  but could not finish.

I thought after the Jimmy Smith play on 3rd down, Sunday was going to be the day, but OBJ made a hell of a catch with Tavon right on him.  When it came to the end game, the Ravens could not make that last play.   Damn, they tried though and that was good enough for me, just this year.

Jefferson's play on the 2-pt conversion will be forgotten since it didn't lead to anything, but that was an amazing play that would've gone down a a season-saver if they can find a FG on the final drive.
